Attitude control algorithms for a geostationary satellite which employs a strap down momentum wheel gyro for pitch control and thrusters for roll control is developed. Pitch control is realised using a ladder network type Schmitt triggers with hysteresis and a feedback lag circuit. An effectiveness of the design is demonstrated. Roll control law uses thruster on/off control scheme. The effect of thruster pulse amplitude and pulse duration on fuel consumption is investigated, and a proper pair are given.

Flow simulation of a controlled airfoil with synthetic jet actuators
Jee, Sol Keun; Lopez, Omar; Moser, Robert D.; Kutay, Ali Türker; Muse, Jonathan A.; Calise, Anthony J. (2009-01-01)
An airfoil moving with two degrees of freedom (pitching and plunging) is simulated with a closed-loop flow control system. The simulation of the unsteady airfoil is computed using extended delayed detached eddy simulation (EDDES), a hybrid RANS-LES turbulence model based on the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. The control system controls the airfoil in two modes, first through direct application of forces and torques, and second, through the use of tangential synthetic jet actuators. The approach was desi...
Cogging Torque Disturbance Rejection for a Low-cost Gimbal Motor and a Controller Design with Practical Considerations
Ozdogan, Gokhan; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2019-01-01)
In many robotic applications and inertially stabilized electro-optic gimbal systems, precise positioning and speed control are highly important concepts. Due to size and weight limitations, motor is required to be small but torque density is desired to be high. In high torque and cheap PMSM and BLDC motors, cogging torque and friction are usually the challenging disturbance sources. In this study, cogging torque and friction are identified using position sensors which already exist in gimbal systems, so the...
Control Allocation Strategies for a Hybrid Controlled Missile with NDI Autopilot
Biyikli, Rabiya; Tekin, Raziye; Yavrucuk, İlkay (2022-01-01)
This study presents roll angle, lateral, and longitudinal acceleration autopilots for a highly agile air defense missile with both aerodynamic tail control and thrust vector control (TVC) parts. Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (NDI) is studied to handle bank-to-turn and agile maneuvers due to the cross-coupling effects. Output redefinition is implemented using the center of percussion idea for the nonminimum phase of the tail-controlled missiles. Another arduous feature of the system is that the dual control of...
Design of a control moment gyroscope with outer rotor BLDC motor
İnce, Berk; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
The aim of this thesis is to design a control moment gyroscope (CMG) with outer rotor BLDC motor for medium size satellites. CMG is a device that provides high output torque to the satellite in order to maneuvering satellites rapidly. CMG is the most efficient actuator in terms of output torque capacity when it is compared with other type actuators such as the reaction wheel. The first step of the designing CMG is to determine CMG design specifications. The mass and volume specifications of the designed CMG...
Experimental trapped vorticity flight control using an augmenting error minimization adaptive law
Muse, Jonathan A.; Kutay, Ali Türker; Calise, Anthony J. (2008-01-01)
Closed-loop feedback control is used in a series of wind tunnel experiments to effect commanded 2-DOF maneuvers (pitch and plunge) of a free airfoil without moving control surfaces. The objective is to achieve control bandwidths that are beyond those achievable with mechanical control surfaces. Bi-directional changes in the pitching moment over a range of angles of attack are effected by controllable, nominally-symmetric, trapped vorticity concentrations on both the suction and pressure surfaces near the tr...
