Ultrafast transient THz spectroscopy of azobenzene

2005-09-23
Ultrafast optical pump-THz probe experiments conducted to study photo-reactive molecular systems will be presented after a brief methodology overview. Large differences in UV excitation and THz absorption cross-sections make these pump-probe investigations extremely difficult. This study concentrates on transient dynamics of trans-cis-trans isomerization of azobenzene in the liquid and solid phase.

Low temperature excitation transfer in the FMO complex. Simulations.
Iseri, EI; Gulen, D (1998-08-22)
Electronic excited state (EES) models for the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) antenna complex of the green bacterium P. aestuarii have generally been based on obtaining an optimal match between the information contents of the optical steady-state spectra and the molecular organization [1-4]. Recent spectral and kinetic information gathered from probing the excited state processes through ultrafast measurements [5-7] have not yet been used effectively for further refinement of the EES and for quantification of th...
An array of square plate resonators with adjustable resonance frequency
Polat, Halim; Azgın, Kıvanç; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2022-8-19)
In this study, a MEMS square plate resonator with adjustable resonance frequency is designed, mathematically modelled and verified with finite element analysis (FEA) and experiments. Resonance frequency of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) square plate is adjusted with the help of several cutouts which are placed in unique lines like center lines and nodal lines. First of all, plates are modelled with the help of semi-analytic method called Rayleigh-Ritz method for the 1st and 2nd modes since higher mode...
Dielectric and Thermal Effects on the Optical Properties of Natural Dyes: A Case Study on Solvated Cyanin
Malcıoğlu, Osman Barış; Gebauer, Ralph; Varsano, Daniele; Baroni, Stefano (2011-10-05)
The optical properties of the flavylium state of the cyanin dye are simulated numerically by combining Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics and linear-response time-dependent density functional theory calculations. The spectrum of the dye calculated in the gas phase is characterized by two peaks in the yellow and in the blue (green and violet), using a GGA-PBE (hybrid-B3LYP) DFT functional, which would bring about a greenish (bright orange) color incompatible with the dark purple hue observed in nature. Descri...
A Detailed Analysis for the Absorption Coefficient of Multilevel Uncooled Infrared Detectors
Küçük, Serhat; Akın, Tayfun (2011-04-29)
This paper introduces a detailed analysis on the calculation of the absorption coefficient of multilevel uncooled infrared detectors. The analysis is carried out considering a two-level 25 mu m pixel pitch infrared detector with a sandwich type resistor which is divided into sub-regions consisting of different stacks of layers. The absorption coefficients of these different sub-regions are calculated individually by using the cascaded transmission line model, including the main body, arms, and the regions w...
Induction thermal plasma synthesis of Mg2Ni nanoparticles
Aktekin, Burak; ÇAKMAK, GÜLHAN; Öztürk, Tayfur (2014-06-15)
A study was carried out into possibility of thermal plasma synthesis of Mg2Ni nanoparticles. Both prealloyed powders and elemental powders were used as precursors in an inductively coupled thermal plasma incorporating two injection probes located axially in the reactor one from the top and the other from the bottom. The study has shown that the use of prealloyed Mg2Ni as precursor leads to its disintegration in the plasma condensing into separate phases and therefore was not suitable for the synthesis of Mg...
