Micropalaeontology, biostratigraphy, and depositional setting of the mid-Cretaceous Derdere Formation at Derik, Mardin, south-eastern Turkey
Simmons, Michael D.; Vicedo, Vicent; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Hosgor, Izzet; Mulayim, Oguz; SARI, BİLAL (2020-11-01)
The micropalaeontology of the mid-Cretaceous Derdere Formation (Mardin Group) from outcrops close to the town of Derik in south-eastern Turkey is described here. In thin sections from the carbonates that form the majority of this formation, rich and diverse micropalaeontological assemblages are present. These include larger benthonic foraminifera, planktonic foraminifera, and other microfossils, including calcareous algae. Alveolinid foraminifera are particularly common and include a new species - Simplalve...
Micropalentological analysis and sequence stratigraphy through upper tournaisian substage in Aladağ unit (Central Taurides, Turkey)
Dinç, Aksel Tuğba; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2009)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the Upper Tournaisian substage within the Carboniferous carbonate deposits of the Aladağ Unit in the Hadim region (Central Taurides) based on foraminiferal diversity and to study the meter scale cyclicity in order to explain the sequence stratigraphic evolution of the carbonate succession. In this study, a 27.01 m thick stratigraphic section consisting of limestones and shales was measured and 89 samples, collected along this section, were analyzed. Micropaleontol...
Micropaleontological analysis and facies evolution across the tournaisian-visean boundary in aladağ unit(Central Taurides, Turkey)
Peynircioğlu, Ali Ahmet; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2005)
This study aims to enlighten microfacies evolution and micropaleontological properties of the Tournaisian ا Visean boundary in Aladağ Unit (Central Taurides, Turkey). Two sections comprising dark shale and dark limestone alternations, including a fairly dolomitized part towards their top are measured. The microfacies analysis suggests a subtidal depositional environment. Foraminiferal assemblages were distinguished at Section AP and biozonation was documented. The biozonation separates the measured section ...
Micropaleontological and stratigraphic analyses of the upper jurassic – lower cretaceous Inalti formation (Bürnük, central pontides, Turkey) : remarks on the facies evolution
Kaya, Mustafa Yücel; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2014)
This thesis aims to conduct a thorough investigation on the Upper Jurassic – Lower Cretaceous İnaltı Formation which is a significant unit for the regional geology of Turkey. Conducted investigation involves micropaleontological and microfacies analyses integrated with stratigraphic interpretations. In the vicinity of Bürnük Village, a 395 m thick stratigraphic section, overlying the Bürnük Formation and underlying the Çağlayan Formation, was measured and 101 samples were collected. Biostratigraphic and chr...
Microfacies analysis of upper devonian - lower carboniferous shallow water carbonates of the Yilanli formation in Zonguldak area, North Western, Turkey
Ahmed, Nouman; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2016)
The Yılanlı Formation of Upper Devonian to Lower Carboniferous succession of the Zonguldak region were measured from Gökgöl section near Zonguldak city, NW Turkey. The studied section dominantly consists of limestone of grey – dark grey color with thin to thick beds of black shale and claystone. A variety of lithofacies identified in the studied section including limestone, dolomite, shale, claystone and mudstone. Nine microfacies are identified as grainstone, packstone, wackstone, mudstone, bindstone, ruds...
