We have developed a mean field model for the paraelectric-ferrielectric phase transition in ammonium sulphate. In our model we assume that the quadrupolar. interactions are the dominant mechanism for this type of transition. The fit of our calculated susceptibility to the experimental data shows that the free energy, with a quadrupolar coupling term, can also adequately explain the observed behaviour of ammonium sulphate

Temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies and bandwidths close to phase transitions in ammonium halides
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2001-09-01)
In this study, we give the temperature dependence of our observed frequencies and bandwidths for the Raman optical modes in the ammonium halides close to the phase transitions of the first order (NH4 Br), tricritical (NH4Cl) and second order (NH4Cl). Using the predictions of an [sing pseudospin-phonon coupled model, which considers interactions between two spin and two phonons, our observed Raman data have been interpreted qualitatively. Our results show that an Ising model considered here can explain the o...
Temperature dependence of the damping constant and the order parameter close to the lambda phase transitions in ammonium halides
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2006-10-01)
This study gives our calculation for the damping constant, using the expressions derived for an Ising pseudospin-phonon coupled system in the ammonium halides (NH4Cl and NH4Br). For this calculation of the damping constant, we use the temperature dependence of the order parameter calculated from the molecular field theory. We predict here the damping constants for the v(5) (174 cm(-1)) and v(5) (177 cm(-1)) Raman modes of NH4Cl and NH4Br, respectively, below T-lambda and compare them with our observed bandw...
Temperature Dependence of the Spontaneous Polarization and the Dielectric Susceptibility near the Phase Transitions in Ammonium Sulfate
Sen, S.; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Kavruk, D. (2010-01-01)
Spontaneous polarization and the dielectric susceptibility are calculated as a function of temperature close to the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition (T-C=223 K) in (NH4)(2)SO4 This calculation is performed using a mean field model by fitting the expressions derived for the dielectric susceptibility to the experimental data for the dielectric constant at the fixed frequencies of 100, 500 and 2000 Hz in ammonium sulfate
Temperature and Pressure Dependence of the Linewidth for an Internal Mode in the Solid Phases of Benzene
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2013-10-01)
The pressure dependence of the Raman linewidths for the upsilon(1) breathing mode is analyzed using the experimental data from the literature for the solid phases (I, II, III and III') in benzene. Increase (I, III and III') and decrease (II) in the Raman linewidths are described by a power-law analysis with the critical exponent beta. The beta values we find, which characterize the phase transition are in favour of the first order among those phases considered in benzene. The temperature and pressure depend...
Temperature dependence of the polarization and the dielectric constant near the paraelectric-ferroelectric transitions in BaTiO3
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-09-01)
Temperature dependences of the spontaneous polarization and the dielectric constant are calculated near the paraelectric-ferroelectric (cubic-tetragonal) transition in BaTiO3 using our mean field model. By expanding the free energy in terms of the spontaneous polarization (order parameter), expressions for the temperature dependence of the spontaneous polarization and the dielectric constant are derived. By considering the temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies for the lattice mode (310 cm(-1)) whi...
