Damped Ly alpha absorption associated with an early-type galaxy at redshift z=0.16377
Lanzetta, KM; Wolfe, AM; Altan, Hakan; Barcons, X; Chen, HW; FernandezSoto, A; Meyer, DM; OrtizGil, A; Savaglio, S; Webb, JK; Yahata, N (1997-10-01)
We report new HST and ground-based observations of a damped Ly alpha absorption system toward the QSO 0850+4400. The redshift of the absorption system is z = 0.163770+/-0.000054 and the neutral hydrogen column density of the absorption system is log N = 19.81+/-0.04 cm(-2). The absorption system is by far the lowest redshift confirmed damped Ly alpha absorption system yet identified, which provides an unprecedented opportunity to examine the nature, impact geometry, and kinematics of the absorbing galaxy in...
TFA catalyzed sequential amination/annulation/aromatization reaction of 2-propynyl-1.3-dicarbonyl compounds with amines: A new one-pot approach to functionalized pyrroles
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Aybey, Asuman; Kayalar, Metin (ARKAT USA, Inc., 2005-10-9)
Highly flexible and efficient syntheses of 1,2,3,5-substituted pyrroles starting from 2-propynyl1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and amines are presented. TFA catalyzed formation of the pyrroles is suggested to proceed through sequential amination of the carbonyl compounds followed by regioselective 5-exo-dig cyclization of the enaminone intermediate and aromatization.
Recognition memory for emotional words under incidental encoding : effects of valance, arousal and age
Kaynak, Hande; Gökçay, Didem; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2013)
Emotional information is commonly assumed to be recognized more accurately than neutral information. While emotionality enhances recognition accuracy, it also induces a more liberal response bias. In this study, the effects of arousal and valence axes of emotion on recognition memory accuracy and liberal bias were examined in young and older adults, for emotional words. For this purpose, memory was assessed with a surprise old/new recognition task, based on Signal Detection Theory. There are also some facto...
Green Roof as an Element of Green Infrastructure and Inferences for Implementations in Turkey
Göç Yener, Ünzile; Gedikli, Bahar; Yücel, İsmail; Department of Earth System Science (2021-9)
With the transformation of natural areas into impermeable surfaces such as roads and buildings, the effects of climate change have been observed more frequently in the last decades. Some examples are natural disasters such as extreme heat waves, floods and forest fires that have been observed worldwide. The concept of “green infrastructure”, which is defined as a network of natural and semi-natural areas, provides the maintenance of these areas, and offers their benefits to people. Green infrastructure crea...
Enantioselective chemoenzymatic synthesis of oseltamivir (tamiflu)(r) intermediates
Eşiyok, Hacı; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
The objective of this presented study was to synthesize optically active compounds considered to be key intermediates in the synthesis of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) by performing chemical and biotechnological methods. Thereof, the carboethoxy cyclohexenone skeleton first was synthesized utilizing easily available substances. The synthesis of alpha-hydroxy ketones in enantiomerically pure form offers a great importance in the synthesis of biologically active compounds. Toward this fact, the enantioselective synth...
