Characterization of molecular-level changes due to MicroRNA-125B expression in breast cancer cells by spectroscopic and chemometric analysis techniques

MicroRNAs (miRNAs), are 22 nucleotides long, non-coding RNAs that control gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to their target mRNA’s 3’ UTRs (untranslated regions). Due to their crucial roles in various important regulatory processes and pathways, miRNAs have been implicated in disease mechanisms such as tumorigenesis, metastasis and drug resistance when their expression is deregulated. Moreover, the regulatory roles of these micromanagers have been demonstrated in the metabolism of cancer cel...
Characterization of intravenous immunoglobulin-mediated functional changes in innate immune cells
Geçkin, Büşranur; Gürsel, Mayda; Department of Biology (2019)
Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) is mainly composed of IgG derived from pooled plasma of healthy individuals and used to treat variety of immune diseases. Low dose administration can activate the immune system in case of immunodeficiencies, while high doses suppress immune responses in autoimmune/autoinflammatory conditions. The mechanisms underlying this disparate effect is poorly understood. Herein, we examined the effects of IVIg treatment on the functionality of specific innate immune cell populations ...
Characterization of BF4- doped polythiophene via pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Gozet, T.; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2003-04-04)
In this work, electrochemically polymerizated polythiophene have been characterized by direct pyrolysis MS and Curie point pyrolysis GCMS techniques. The effect of doping level and type of the dopant on thermal characteristics and decomposition products of polythiophene have been investigated. It has been determined that the thermal degradation of polythiophene occurs in two steps, the first being the loss of the dopant, and the second being the degradation of the polymer main chain. The temperature range a...
Characterization of conducting copolymers of succinic acid bis-(-4-pyrrol-1-yl-phenyl) ester and thiophene via pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Ertas, Merve; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2005-03-01)
In this work, a direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique was applied to characterize a conducting copolymer of succinic acid bis-(4-pyrrol-1-yl-phenyl) ester (SM) and thiophene prepared by electrochemical polymerization. Thermal degradation behavior of both components was quite similar to those of the corresponding homopolymers, PSM, and polythiophene PTh. Yet, detection of oligomers and mixed dimers of both monomers in the high temperature pyrolysis mass spectra confirmed the formation of a copolymer. ...
