Faster than symbol rate (FTSR) sampling is necessary once practical non-adaptive analog front-end filter and excess bandwidth are employed in case of unequally spaced channel taps. Based on this a novel FTSR sampled mismatched minimum mean square error (MMSE) time domain equalization (TDE) is proposed in response to cyclic prefix (CP) based block transmissions. Our results show that the proposed MMSE TDE implementation nearly introduces 3dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) advantage with respect to conventional symbol rate (SR) sampled CP based MMSE single carrier frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) for an error rate of 10-3 and 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM).

A novel approach for synthesising sinus waveforms at power level
Şedele, Serkan Paki; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
In variable speed motor drive and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications, taditional method is to employ some kind of a modulation technique at a high frequency typically 6 kHz to 20 kHz range. In these modulation techniques, the switches are hard switched. The result is application of a series of pulses to the load, and if the load is inductive, sine wave current flows into the load. Hard and rapid switching causes a voltage waveform with a very high dv/dt (rate of change in voltage) causing high ...
A novel adaptive unscented Kalman filter for pico satellite attitude estimation
Söken, Halil Ersin (2011-09-08)
Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) is a filtering algorithm which gives sufficiently good estimation results for estimation problems of nonlinear systems even in case of high nonlinearity. However, in case of system uncertainty UKF becomes to be inaccurate and diverges by time. In other words, if any change occurs in the process noise covariance, which is known as a priori, filter fails. This study, introduces a novel Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF) algorithm based on the correction of process noise cova...
Quantifying The Improvement of MMSE Equalizers by Faster Sampling Rates
Balevi, Eren; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (2017-05-18)
The efficiency of faster than symbol rate sampled MMSE equalizers, which is generally considered as a remedy to time or phase errors, is explicitly analyzed accounting for practical channel conditions and pulse shaping filter. The simulation results illustrate that the advantage of faster than symbol rate sampling is always present for the finite block length ISI channel even if perfect time information is available. Block length is the key parameter that affects the performance such that there is a high SN...
A Novel Broadband Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm With Incomplete-Leaf Tree Structures for Multiscale Electromagnetic Problems
Takrimi, Manouchehr; Ergül, Özgür Salih; Erturk, Vakur B. (2016-06-01)
An efficient and versatile broadband multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA), which is capable of handling large multiscale electromagnetic problems with a wide dynamic range of mesh sizes, is presented. By invoking a novel concept of incomplete-leaf tree structures, where only the overcrowded boxes are divided into smaller ones for a given population threshold, versatility of using variable-sized boxes is achieved. Consequently, for geometries containing highly overmeshed local regions, the proposed me...
A Novel UWB Slot Antenna with a Self-Complementary Matching Network
Ojaroudi, Mohammad; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (2015-11-03)
In this paper a simple printed slot antenna with an enhanced bandwidth based on self-complementary structures is presented for UWB applications. The proposed antenna consists of a square radiating patch with a microstrip feed-line defected by an inverted U-shaped slot on one side, a rectangular slot and a defected ground plane by an inverted U-shaped strip protruded from rectangular slot on the other side. The antenna provides a wide usable fractional bandwidth of more than 100% (3.2-10.5 GHz). This large o...
