Glow discharge with diminishing neutral plasma
Demokan, O; Akman, S (2002-10-15)
In this work, the anode-cathode distance in a direct current glow discharge is reduced manually to values smaller than the Child-Langmuir extent, while the discharge current, the discharge voltage and the Langmuir probe current are monitored continuously. The discharge current is observed to develop a large peak as soon as the sheath edge contacts with the anode, then decays to negligible values for a certain time interval, after which, this cycle starts repeating itself periodically. A model is described t...
Structural Identification Analytical Aspects
Aktan, Emin; Necati, Çatbaş; Türer, Ahmet; Zongfen, Zhang (1998-07-01)
Analytical aspects of structural identification are discussed considering different types of models, different model calibration spaces, and different types and amounts of experimental information. Three-dimensional finite element models and 2D grid models of an operating highway bridge are developed. The models were calibrated by taking advantage of an extensive database of experimental information accumulated from the bridge. Different types of models of varying sizes permit comparison of automated optimi...
SURFACE TREATMENT OF POLYPROPYLENE USING A CAPACITIVELY COUPLED PLASMA SYSTEM
Mecit, Giray; Yedierler, Burak; Department of Physics (2022-2-11)
Gaseous plasmas are suitable for various applications in material science, including but not limited to thin film productions and coatings, tailoring the surface properties of polymers. This study aims to characterize a capacitively coupled plasma system utilized in material processing applications. The system utilizes a 13.56 MHz radio frequency source to produce gaseous plasmas. The correlation between the produced plasmas and the surface physical and surface chemical properties of polypropylene treated b...
Applications of ions produced by low intensity repetitive laser pulses for implantation into semiconductor materials
Wolowski, J.; Badziak, J.; Czarnecka, A.; Parys, P.; Pisarek, M.; Rosinski, M.; Turan, Raşit; Yerci, Selçuk (2008-01-01)
This work reports experiment concerning specific applications of implantation of laser-produced ions for production of semiconductor nanocrystals. The investigation was carried out in the IPPLM within the EC STREP 'SEMINANO' project. A repetitive pulse laser system of parameters: energy up to 0.8 J in a 3.5 ns-pulse, wavelength of 1.06 mu m, repetition rate of up to 10 Hz, has been employed in these investigations. The characterisation of laser-produced ions was performed with the use of 'time-of-flight' io...
Rate-distortion optimization for stereoscopic video streaming with unequal error protection
Tan, A. Serdar; Aksay, Anil; Akar, Gözde; ARIKAN, ERDAL (2009-01-01)
We consider an error-resilient stereoscopic streaming system that uses an H.264-based multiview video codec and a rateless Raptor code for recovery from packet losses. One aim of the present work is to suggest a heuristic methodology for modeling the end-to-end rate-distortion (RD) characteristic of such a system. Another aim is to show how to make use of such a model to optimally select the parameters of the video codec and the Raptor code to minimize the overall distortion. Specifically, the proposed syst...
