Effect of proton scavengers on the textural properties and performance of Fe2O3 xerogels for boron containing pyrotechnics
Yilmaz, Nil E. Dinçer; Karakaş, Gürkan (2017-01-01)
Currently used rockets and missile igniter systems are mostly based on the pyrotechnic blends of fuels and oxidizers. In this study nano-sized boron was used as fuel because of its high heat of combustion, low atomic weight and high energy density. Iron oxide was used as an oxidizer and synthesized by sol-gel method by using various types of proton scavengers. In the experiments Fe(NO3)3·9H2O was used as a precursor and a wide range of proton scavengers (propylene oxide, 1,2 epoxybutane, tetrahydrofuran, te...

Effect of Carbon Nanotube Purification on the Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Composites with Carbon Nanotubes in Low Concentration
Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2011-03-15)
Surface properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were altered by purification with nitric acid, sulfuric acid, ammonium hydroxide, and hydrogen peroxide. As-received and purified CNT-based conductive poly( ethylene terephthalate) composites were prepared with a twin-screw extruder. The effects of CNT purification on the surface properties of the CNTs and on the morphology and electrical and mechanical properties of CNT-based composites were investigated. Surface energy measurements showed that the acidic compo...

Effect of color and surfactants on nanofiltration for the recovery of carpet printing wastewaters
Capar, Goksen; Yetiş, Ülkü; Olceroglu, A. Hande; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
Carpet printing wastewater (CPW) was spiked with metal-complex dyes at concentrations of 10 and 30 mg/L to investigate the effect of feed color on separation performance of nanofiltration (NF). The rejection was excellent; 98-100% for color and COD under all spiking conditions. Although the flux decline increased with increasing dye concentration, the concentration polarization was the main cause of the flux decline. The effect of surfactants on NF separation performance was also investigated by preparing s...
