The purpose of this study is to combine the transformation electromagnetics approach and the inverse algorithms for solving microwave imaging problems, especially in the context of imaging the shapes of complex objects. A suitable transformation medium is placed into the domain of interest by using the concepts of the transformation electromagnetics, and hence, expensive cost function evaluations can be performed by the finite element method with reduced computational load. Numerical examples are demonstrated to measure the performance of the proposed approach.

A CIRCLE DETECTION APPROACH BASED ON RADON TRANSFORM
Okman, O. Erman; Akar, Gözde (2013-05-31)
In this paper a novel fast circle detection algorithm is proposed which depends on the spatial properties of the connected components on the image. Two 1-D transforms of each connected component is obtained by taking the Radon Transform of the image for two different directions, which are in fact the integrations of the image through horizontal and vertical directions. Circles are detected using the similarities of detected peaks on the transformed functions and the characteristics of the values in between ...
An accurate nonlinear 3d Timoshenko beam element based on Hu-Washizu functional
Soydas, Ozan; Sarıtaş, Afşin (Elsevier BV, 2013-09-01)
An accurate 3d mixed beam element that is efficient especially in nonlinear analysis is presented in this paper. The mathematical theory is based on Hu-Washizu principle that uses three-fields in the variational form. The composition of the variational form ensures independent selection of displacement, stress and strain fields. Timoshenko beam theory is extended to three dimensions for deriving strains from displacement field. Numerical integration of stress strain relations along control sections is carri...
A new modal superposition method for nonlinear vibration analysis of structures using hybrid mode shapes
Ferhatoglu, Erhan; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat (Elsevier BV, 2018-07-01)
In this paper, a new modal superposition method based on a hybrid mode shape concept is developed for the determination of steady state vibration response of nonlinear structures. The method is developed specifically for systems having nonlinearities where the stiffness of the system may take different limiting values. Stiffness variation of these nonlinear systems enables one to define different linear systems corresponding to each value of the limiting equivalent stiffness. Moreover, the response of the n...
A Novel Computational Method to Calculate Nonlinear Normal Modes of Complex Structures
Samandarı, Hamed; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (2019-01-31)
In this study, a simple and efficient computational approach to obtain nonlinear normal modes (NNMs) of nonlinear structures is presented. Describing function method (DFM) is used to capture the nonlinear internal forces under periodic motion. DFM has the advantage of expressing the nonlinear internal force as a nonlinear stiffness matrix multiplied by a displacement vector, where the off-diagonal terms of the nonlinear stiffness matrix can provide a comprehensive knowledge about the coupling between the mo...
A simple out of plane capacitive MEMS accelerometer utilizing lateral and vertical electrodes for differential sensing
Terzioglu, Yunus; Kose, Talha; Azgın, Kıvanç; Akın, Tayfun (2015-11-01)
This paper presents an out-of-plane (z-axis) accelerometer, which incorporates the use of two different MEMS capacitive electrode structures in combination for implementing a linear closed-loop system. During the implementation, the complexity of the design and fabrication steps of the sensing element is kept at a minimum. The proposed accelerometer uses capacitive MEMS sensing element fabricated with a 4-mask process. This sensing element includes a comb finger type lateral electrode and a vertical paralle...
