Implementation and comparison of turbulence models on a flat plate problem using a Navier-Stokes solver
Genç, Balkan Ziya; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2003)
For turbulent flow calculations, some of the well-known turbulence models in the literature are applied on a previously developed Navier-Stokes solver designed to handle laminar flows. A finite volume formulation, which is cell-based for inviscid terms and cell-vertex for viscous terms, is used for numerical discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations in conservative form. This formulation is combined with one-step, explicit time marching Lax-Wendroff numerical scheme that is second order accurate in spac...

Analysis of the Junction Properties of C/GaSe0.5S0.5/C Back-to-Back Schottky-Type Photodetectors
Khanfar, Hazem K.; Qasrawi, Atef F.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2015-4)
In this paper, a C/GaSe0.5S0.5/C metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector is suggested and described. The device is explored by means of current-voltage and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics under different photoexcitation intensities. It was observed that the design of the back-to-back Schottky device has reduced the dark current of the normal Ag/GaSe0.5S0.5/C Schottky diode by 13 times and increased the photosensitivity from 3.8 to similar to 2.1x10(3). The device exhibited a barrier height of 0.84...
Evaluation of mechanical properties of Bi12SiO20 sillenite using first principles and nanoindentation
Isik, M.; Sürücü, Gökhan; Gencer, A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2021-08-01)
The mechanical and anisotropic elastic properties of Bi12SiO20 (BSO) were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and nanoindentation. The calculated and experimentally observed XRD patterns of the compound were reported and the crystal structure of the BSO was determined to be cubic with the lattice constant of a = 1.025 nm. The second-order elastic constants and related polycrystalline elastic moduli (e.g. shear modulus, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, linear compressibility and ...
Experimental investigation of waveform tip injection on the characteristics of the tip vortex
Ostovan, Yashar; Uzol, Oğuz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2011)
This study investigates the effect of chordwisely modulated tip injection on the flow and turbulence characteristics of the tip vortex through experimental measurements downstream of a rectangular half-wing that has an aspect ratio of three. This injection technique involves spanwise jets at the tip that are issued from a series of holes along the chord line normal to the freestream flow direction. The injection mass flow rate from each hole is individually controlled using computer driven solenoid valves a...
