Effects of the plant phenolic quercetin on protein and mRNA CYP1A1, CYP2E1, NQO1 and GST enzymes in colon cancer cell line SW620
Ülger, Meliha; Adalı, Orhan; Gençler Özkan, Ayşe Mine; Department of Biochemistry (2015)
Quercetin has been one of the most studied flavonoids for years because of its widespread effects on various health problems and is known to be a potent anti-carcinogenic compound. One possible mechanism that flavonoids may prevent or treat cancer is by regulation of phase I and phase II enzyme activity. Phase I enzymes are xenobiotic metabolizing cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes whose functions are activating or inactivating xenobiotic compounds. CYP1A1 and CYP2E1 enzymes are actively found on cancer cells an...
Effects of tannic acid on drug metabolizing enzyme activities in prostate cancer cells

Effects of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib on cholesterol containing distearoyl phosphatidylcholine membranes
Sade, Asli; Banerjee, Sreeparna; Severcan, Feride (2011-01-01)
The effects of different concentrations of celecoxib on the acyl chain order, dynamics and the hydration status of the head group and interfacial region of model membranes containing DSPC and cholesterol were investigated in detail using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Our results reveal that regardless of the presence of cholesterol, celecoxib is able to alter the physical properties of membranes. It exerts opposing effects on membrane order at high and low concentrations and decreases membrane fl...
Effects of 2-arylbenzimidazoles on rat hepatic microsomal monooxygenase system
İşcan, Mesude Y.; Büyükbingöl, Erdem; İşcan, Mümtaz; Şahin, Fethi; Şafak, Cihat (Elsevier BV, 1989-1)
1. The effects of eight newly synthesized 2-aryl substituted benzimidazole derivatives on control and phenobarbital (PB) treated rat liver microsomal aniline 4-hydroxylase and ethylmorphine N-demethylase activities, and their binding to control and PB-treated rat liver microsomal oxidized cytochrome P-450 are presented. 2. All compounds inhibited ethylmorphine N-demethylase activity with I50 values ranging from 8.50 × 10−4 M to 27.83 × 10−4 M in control and ranging from 2.80 × 10−4 M to 15.79 × 10−4 M in P...
Effects of benzene on liver, kidney and lung cyp1a, cyp2b4, cyp2e1 and cyp3a6 mrna, protein level, and drug metabolizing enzyme activities and toxicity in diabetic rabbits
Arslan, Şevki; Arınç, Emel; Department of Biochemistry (2008)
The effects of diabetes on cytochrome P450 dependent drug metabolizing enzymes have not to be clarified yet. The most widely used animals in these studies have been rats, and information regarding the effects of diabetes on cytochrome P450 dependent procarcinogen/carcinogen metabolism in rabbits is limited. In the present study, we investigated, for the first time, the influence of benzene on liver, kidney and lung microsomal cytochrome P450 dependent drug metabolizing enzyme activities, protein and mRNA le...
