Determination of simvastatin-induced changes in bone composition and structure by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in rat animal model
Garip, Sebnem; Severcan, Feride (2010-08-01)
Simvastatin is a hypolipidemic drug which is used to control hypercholesterolemia and to prevent cardiovascular disease. In the current study, the effects of high and low doses of simvastatin treatment on tibia of healthy rats were investigated. Wistar rats were used for the control, 20 mg and 50 mg simvastatin-treated groups. Molecular investigations were performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In the bones of the two groups of simvastatin-treated rats, the relative mineral/matrix ratio (p...
Measurement of the Z -> tau tau cross section with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (2011-12-14)
The Z -> tau tau cross section is measured with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in four different final states determined by the decay modes of the tau leptons: muon-hadron, electron-hadron, electron-muon, and muon-muon. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1), at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. Cross sections are measured separately for each final state in fiducial regions of high detector acceptance, as well as in the full phas...
The recovery effect of Vitamin C on structural alterations due to Streptozotocin-Induced diabetes in rat testicular tissues
Küçük Baloğlu, Fatma; Guldag Tas, Damla; Yilmaz, Okkes; Severcan, Feride (2023-03-05)
Type I Diabetes is a multisystem disease that causes alterations in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolisms due to hyperglycemia. It has an extensive pathology, especially the mechanism involving oxidative stress is still complex. Type I diabetes is correlated with increased formation of free radicals and decreased levels of antioxidant potential. Vitamin C (Vit C) is a powerful antioxidant that participates in antioxidant defense, protecting lipid membranes and proteins from oxidative damage by donating...
Prediction of protein subcellular localization based on primary sequence data
Özarar, Mert; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Department of Computer Engineering (2003)
Subcellular localization is crucial for determining the functions of proteins. A system called prediction of protein subcellular localization (P2SL) that predicts the subcellular localization of proteins in eukaryotic organisms based on the amino acid content of primary sequences using amino acid order is designed. The approach for prediction is to nd the most frequent motifs for each protein in a given class based on clustering via self organizing maps and then to use these most frequent motifs as features...
Measurement of W(+/-)Z production in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (2012-10-01)
A study of W(+/-)Z production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2011. In total, 317 candidates, with a background expectation of 68 +/- 10 events, are observed in double-leptonic decay final states with electrons, muons and missing transverse momentum. The total cross-section is determined to be sigma(tot)(WZ) = 19.0(-1.3)(+1.4)(stat.) +/- 0.9(syst.) +...
