In this study, joint estimation of azimuth and elevation angles with uniform rectangular array(URA) in the presence of mutual coupling is discussed. Mutual coupling coefficients are also estimated with the estimated arrival angles. By using these coupling coefficient estimates, two dimensional refined search of direction of arrival angles(DOA) is done. Several Monte Carlo experiments are performed and it is observed that the refined angle estimates are more accurate compared to the initial estimates which do not use the coupling coefficient numerical values. By applying the algorithm proposed in In the computational load of two dimensional spectrum search is reduced and the negative effect of mutual coupling between the sensors is eliminated.

Uniform and Non-Uniform V-shaped Arrays for 2-D DOA Estimation

In this study, a new method for optimum design of uniform and non-uniform V-shaped arrays is presented for azimuth and elevation angle estimation. The proposed design method finds an optimum angle between the linear sub-arrays of the V-array by using the Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB) where statistical coupling effect between azimuth and elevation angle estimation is considered This method can be used to obtain directional and isotropic angle performances for uniform and non-uniform V-arrays. For non-uniform isotro...
Design and evaluation of V-shaped arrays for 2-D DOA estimation
Filik, Tansu; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2008-04-04)
A new method for optimum design of V-shaped arrays is presented for azimuth and elevation angle estimation simultaneously. The design criterion is based on the Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB) for joint estimation where the coupling effect between the azimuth and elevation direction of arrival (DOA) angles is taken into account. The design method finds an optimum angle between the linear sub-arrays of the V-array. The computation of the optimum angle is simple due to the monotonic characteristics of the best and wors...
Reduced order modeling of helicopter substructures for dynamic analysis
Hayırlı, Uğur; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2018)
Dynamic analysis of a structure is generally conducted by the finite element method in aerospace structures. The models usually contain large number of elements to be able to obtain more accurate results. Although the most computers are capable of solving the large and complex problems, the analysis problems such as dynamic optimization, aeroelastic, frequency and time response may take long time due to involving iterative and multi-step processes. In this study, various model reduction methods are describe...
2-D PAIRED DIRECTION-OF-ARRIVAL ANGLE ESTIMATION WITH TWO PARALLEL UNIFORM LINEAR ARRAYS
Filik, Tansu; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2011-06-01)
Pairing problem for the azimuth and elevation angles of multiple sources is an important problem in two dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. In this paper, a new technique is proposed for fast and automatically paired 2-D DOA estimation. This technique uses the magnitude and phase of the eigenvalues of the rotational transformation matrix of the ESPRIT algorithm. A special array geometry is chosen in order to take advantage of the ESPRIT method. The proposed technique is used in two diff...

This paper introduces a two-way split-step parabolic equation propagation tool (2W-SSPE), which is capable of handling both forward and backward scattered waves during groundwave propagation over an irregular terrain, through inhomogeneous atmosphere. The algorithm is calibrated and tested against reference data obtained with the help of image method and the Geometric Optic (GO) + Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD).
