Comparative effects of emodin on biological activities of MCF-7 and MDA-231 cell lines
Sakallı, Elif; İşcan, Mesude; Department of Biochemistry (2010)
Emodin (1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone) is a phytoestrogenic component of Rheum plant extracts which has been used for medical treatment since ancient times. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. In our research, we aimed to study the biological effects of emodin on MCF-7 and MDA-231 cell lines. Cytotoxicity assays showed that emodin treatment for 48hours caused a concentration dependent decrease in viable cell numbers of both cell lines. As determined by cell counting...
Comparative study of low-temperature photoluminescence and thermally stimulated current in quinary Tl4Ga3InSe6S2 layered crystals
Hasanlı, Nızamı (2016-04-01)
Photoluminescence (PL) and thermally stimulated current (TSC) spectra of Tl4Ga3InSe6S2 layered crystals grown by Bridgman method have been studied in the wavelength region of 560-690 nm and the temperature range of 15-45 K (PL) and in the temperature region of 10-90 K (TSC). A broad PL band centered at 620 nm (2.00 eV) was observed at T=15 K. Variations of emission band has been studied as a function of excitation laser intensity in the 0.7-36.5 mW cm(-2) range. Radiative transitions from donor level locate...

Comparative effects of biochar-nanosheets and conventional organic-amendments on health risks abatement of potentially toxic elements via consumption of wheat grown on industrially contaminated-soil
Yousaf, Balal; Liu, Guijian; Abbas, Qumber; Ullah, Habib; Wang, Ruwei; Zia-ur-Rehman, Muhammad; Amina, Amina; Niu, Zhiyuan (2018-02-01)
Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) discharge to the soil environment through increased anthropogenic activities is a global threat. These l'Its can have harmful and chronic-persistent health effects on exposed populations through food consumption grown on contaminated soils. Efforts to investigate the transformation mechanism and accumulation behavior of PTEs in soil-plant system and their adverse health effects have focused extensively in previous studies. However, limited studies address biochar nano sheet...
Comparative study on surface enhanced raman scattering activity of various silver nanostructures
Demirtaş, Özge; Bek, Alpan; Taşgın, Mehmet Emre; Department of Physics (2017)
In this work, the effect of the strong field enhancement generated in the near field of metal nanoparticles and nanowires was investigated by taking advantage of the plasmon frequencies induced by Raman laser light stimulation of free conduction electrons of these metal nanostructures. Small number of molecules that are either bound to these nanostructures or located up to a few nanometers away from the nanostructures can be detected easily through strong electromagnetic field enhancement. The aim of this w...
