Aim: Veterinary animals are exposed to a variety of xenobiotics. Methimazole is an anti thyroid drug which has been illegally used as a fattening agent in cattle and imipramine and chlorpromazine are antidepressant drugs. In the present study, the aim was to study metabolism of these three drugs by cattle liver microsomes and to characterize biochemical and kinetic properties of bovine liver microsomal flavin-containing monooxygenase catalyzed methimazole oxidation.

Expression of the potential biomarker heat shock protein 70 and its regulator, the metazoan DnaJ homolog, by temperature stress in the sponge Geodia cydonium
Koziol, C; Batel, R; Arinc, E; Schroder, HC; Muller, WEG (Inter-Research Science Center, 1997-01-01)
Because sponges (Porifera) are generally the dominant group of multicellular animals found in the marine benthos they are key animals for the testing of biomarkers in this biotope. Previously, it was shown that the heat shock protein hsp70 from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium is a useful biomarker for following biological responses to selected physical and chemical stressors. One protein which is critical for hsp70 function in other organisms is the DnaJ-like protein. In this study we therefore isolated a...
The bioaccumulation of nonyphenol and its adverse effect on the liver of rainbow trout (Onchorynchus mykiss)
Uguz, C; İşcan, Mesude; Erguven, A; Isgor, B; Togan, İnci Zehra (2003-07-01)
Alkylphenol polyethoxylates (APEs) are widely used as nonionic surfactants. Nonylphenol (NP), one of the derivatives of APEs, has been found in the aquatic environment in ranges from nanograms per liter to milligrams per liter. In this study, juvenile rainbow trout were exposed to 0 (control), 66, 220, or 660 mug NP/L for up to 28 days. Fish remained healthy under NP exposures of 0, 66, and 220 mug/L for the length of the experiment. All fish died after 4 days of exposure to 660 mug NP/L. Time-dependent NP ...
Identification of the new immunogenic proteins of bordetella pertussis by immunoproteomics
Altındiş, Emrah; Özcengiz, Gülay; Department of Biotechnology (2007)
The genus Bordetella contains several pathogenic species generally associated with upper respiratory tract infections in warm-blooded animals. Bordetella pertussis is the etiologic agent of whooping cough. Whooping cough is presently one of the ten most common causes of death from infectious diseases and reported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to cause 50 million cases and 350000 deaths worldwide per year, mainly among unvaccinated individuals in poor countries. The term proteome, in analogy to the ...
Synthesis and sintering of B, Sr, Mg multi-doped hydroxyapatites: Structural, mechanical and biological characterization
Yedekçi, Buşra; Tezcaner, Ayşen; DEMİR, TEYFİK; Evis, Zafer (2021-03-01)
Hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2)) is the main constituent mineral of bone and teeth in mammals. Due to its outstanding biocompatibility and osteoconductive capabilities, it is preferred for bone repair and replacement. Owing to high potential to have excellent biological properties, ternary ions-doped HAs have just begun to be investigated in the biomedical field and preparing multi-doped HAs is a fairly new approach. Boron (B, BO33-), strontium (Sr, Sr2+) and magnesium (Mg, Mg2+) provide a benefici...
Inhibition mechanisms of lead, cadmium and nickel for the purified bovine liver NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase
BOZCAARMUTLU, AZRA; Celik, H.; Arinc, E. (2011-08-28)
Very little information is available on the effects of metals in veterinary animals, despite the fact that they are exposed to these chemicals via contaminated plants and water sources. NADPH-Cytochrome P450 reductase is an essential component of the microsomal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase system. In this study, our aim was to elucidate in vitro effect of Pb2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+ on the purified bovine NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase. NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase was purified from bovine liver microsomes. Th...
