The chemical reactivity of syn-3 was investigated. The experimental results showed that the central double bond of this system is inert toward chemical reactions. To determine the reactivity of this central double bond. we synthesized syn- and anti-7 and recorded their photoelectron spectra. Low first-ionization potentials of syn- and anti-7 (7.6 eV) dearly indicated that these compounds should be highly reactive.

Synthesis, characterization, and electrochromic properties of conducting poly(hexanedioic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl ester) and its copolymer with thiophene
CAMURLU, P; Çırpan, Ali; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2004-10-14)
Hexanedioic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl) ester (HABTE) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-thiophene ethanol with adipoyl chloride. Resulting monomer was electrochemically homopolymerized in the presence of tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as the supporting electrolyte, in acetonitrile/borontrifloride ethylether solvent mixture (8:2, v/v). Copolymerization in the presence of thiophene was achieved in TBAFB/AN. Resulting homo and copolymers were characterized via CV, FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, and UV-vis...
Synthesis of conducting copolymers of thiophene capped poly(ethylene oxide) with pyrrole and thiophene
Yildiz, Huseyin Bekir; Kiralp, Senem; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yagci, Yusuf; Ito, Koichi (Elsevier BV, 2006-11-10)
Thiophene capped poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) was synthesized. Copolymerisations of PEO with pyrrole (Py) and thiophene (Th) were achieved in water-sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and acetonitrile (AN)-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) solvent electrolyte couples via constant potential electrolyses. Characterisations of the samples were performed by NMR, cyclic voltammetry (CV), FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrical conductivities were measured by the four-probe technique. PEO-co-PTh f...
Synthesis and electrochromic properties of a multichromic, conducting, soluble polythiophene derivative and its copolymer
Özyurt, Funda; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2009)
A new polythiophene derivative, poly-2,3-bis(4-tert-butylphenyl)-5,8-bis(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)quinoxaline PHTQ was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical polymerization and its electrochemical properties were reported. The monomer was electrochemically polymerized in the presence of tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate(TBAPF6) as the supporting electrolyte in dichloromethane-acetonitrile (5:95, v:v). Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR) was utilized for the characterization ...
Reaction of cycloheptatriene derivatives with 1,3-diketones in the presence of Mn(OAc)(3)
Sudemen, Mahir Burak; ZENGİN, MUSTAFA; GENÇ, HAYRİYE; Balcı, Metin (2011-01-01)
The reactions of some 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with cycloheptatriene derivatives in the presence of Mn(OAc)(3) were examined. Cycloheptatriene forms mainly [2+3] and [6+3] dihydrofuran addition products derived from cycloheptatriene. However, the reaction of acetylacetone with cycloheptatriene substituted with an electron withdrawing group exclusively gave products derived from the norcaradiene structure. The formation mechanism of the products as well as the role of the substituent attached to cycloheptatr...
Synthesis of zinc borate using water soluble additives: Kinetics and product characterization
ÇAKAL, GAYE ÖZGÜR; Baltaci, Berk; Bayram, Göknur; Özkar, Saim; EROĞLU, İNCİ (Elsevier BV, 2020-03-01)
Zinc borate was synthesized from the reaction of zinc oxide and boric acid in the absence or presence of seven different water soluble additives. Additive concentration and zinc oxide particle size were varied to investigate their effect on the growth kinetics of zinc borate particles. Zinc borate particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Samples taken from the reaction mixture during the synthesis were analyzed for dete...
