Evaluation of metal concentrations in groundwater nearby Soma coal-fired power plant
Sası, Gıuma; Tuncel, Semra G.; Department of Chemistry (2005)
In this work, metal pollution in groundwater near by Soma coal-fired power plant was invistigated. Coal combustion results in huge amounts of bottom ash from which metals can originate and migrate to groundwater and pollute it. Forty groundwater samples were collected from water wells in an area near by the power plant to determine 14 metals namely; Na, Ca, K, Mg, Al, Ba, Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb, Cr, Cd, Ni and V. Samples were collected in polyethylene bottles, the pH of the water was measured. Then, the samples wer...
Experimental investigation of the agitation of complex fluids
Yazıcıoğlu, Özge; Uludağ, Yusuf; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
In this study, agitation of solutions using different impeller and tank geometry were investigated experimentally in terms of hydrodynamics, macromixing time and aeration characteristics. In the first set of experiments a cylindrical vessel equipped with two types of hydrofoil and a hyperboloid impeller or their combinations were used. Vessel and impeller diameters and water level were 300, 100 and 300 mm, respectively. At the same specific power consumption, 163 W/m3, the so called “hydrofoil 1” impeller p...
In-Depth Method for the Characterization of Glycosylation in Manufactured Recombinant Monoclonal Antibody Drugs
Song, Ting; Özcan Kabasakal, Süreyya; Becker, Alicia; Lebrilla, Carlito B. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2014-06-17)
The glycosylation in recombinant monoclonal antibody (rMab) drugs is a major concern in the biopharmaceutical industry as it impacts the drugs' many attributes. Characterization is important but complicated by the intricate structures, microheterogeneity, and the limitations of current tools for structural analysis. In this study, we developed a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) N-glycan library based on eight commercial rMab drugs. A library of over 70 structures was developed for the rapid c...
Development of a Carbon Mesh Supported Thin Film Microextraction Membrane As a Means to Lower the Detection Limits of Benchtop and Portable GC/MS Instrumentation
Grandy, Jonathan J.; Boyacı, Ezel; Pawliszyn, Janusz (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2016-02-02)
In this work, a durable and easy to handle thin film microextraction (TFME) device is reported. The membrane is comprised of poly(divinylbenzene) (DVB) resin particles suspended in a high-density polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) glue, which is spread onto a carbon fiber mesh. The currently presented membrane was shown to exhibit a substantially lesser amount of siloxane bleed during thermal desorption, while providing a statistically similar extraction efficiency toward a broad spectrum of analytes varying in po...
