CHARACTERISTICS OF A FLUIDIZED-BED COMBUSTOR BURNING LOW-QUALITY LIGNITE

1991-09-01
In order to investigate the combustion characteristics of low-quality Turkish lignites in atmospheric fluidised-bed combustors, steady-state experiments were conducted in a 0.25 m diameter fluidised bed burning Seyitomer lignite. The excess-air ranged from 0 to 72%, and the bed temperature from 1049 to 1173 K. Spatial distributions of gas constituents and temperature were measured in both the bed and the freeboard. The combustion efficiency was found to rise with bed temperature and excess air for the operating range under consideration. Oxygen consumption in the freeboard was approximately 23% in all the experiments. The results showed that 60% of total heat removed was extracted by the bed coil, and that heat-transfer coefficients for the in-bed coil ranged from 130 to 200 W M-2 K-1 and for the freeboard coil remained approximately constant at 40 W M-2 K-1.

Combustion behavior and kinetics of a Turkish lignite blended with biomass/magnesite dust
Yousefzad Farrokhi, Farshid; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
This study investigated the effect of blending on the combustion behavior of Turkish lignite blended with biomass or magnesite dust using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) under air atmosphere. The lignite used in this study is Tunçbilek lignite (TL), which is blended with the biomass types; olive residue (OR) and almond shell (AS), and the inorganic industrial waste, magnesite dust (MD). The blends are composed of various weight fractions of fuels, with a constant weight fraction of molasses (10 wt. %) as...
Combustion Behavior and Kinetics of Turkish Lignite Blended with Biomass/Magnesite Dust
Farrokhi, Farshid Yousefzad; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2018-12-01)
The effect of blending on the combustion behavior of a Turkish lignite blended with biomass or magnesite dust using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) coupled with a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) under air atmosphere has been investigated. The lignite used in this study is Tuncbilek lignite (TL), which is blended with two biomasses, olive residue (OR) and almond shell (AS), and the inorganic industrial waste, magnesite dust (MD). The blends are composed of various weight fractions of fuels,...
Thermal characterization, combustion and kinetics of different origin crude oils
Gundogar, Asli S.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2014-05-01)
In this research, the combustion behavior of six Turkish crude oils (light and medium type) was investigated by thermogravimetry/derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) methods under atmospheric air in the absence of rock matrix. Two main reaction intervals were observed on all thermograms known as low temperature oxidation (LTO) and high temperature oxidation (HTO) regions. The resulting curves showed that the mass loss under combustion is accompanied by exothermic ...
Application of EOR techniques for oil shale fields (in-situ combustion approach)
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Bagci, S. (2008-01-01)
In this study, 1-D combustion tube experiments were performed with samples from the Turkish Seyitomer, Himmetoglu and Hatildag oil shale deposits. The results demonstrate that these oil shales are suitable for oil production by in-situ combustion techniques. The calculated production values are 4.46, L/ton for Seyitomer oil shale, 32.22 L/ton for Himmetoglu oil shale, and 18.27 L/ton for Hatildag oil shale.
Comparative Pyrolysis and Combustion Kinetics of Oil Shales
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2000-02-01)
In this research, thermal characteristics and kinetic parameters of eight Turkish oil shale samples were determined by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) at non-isothermal heating conditions both for pyrolysis and combustion processes. A general computer program was developed and the methods are compared with regard to their accuracy and the ease of interpretation of the kinetics of thermal decomposition. Activation energies of the samples were determined by five different methods and the results are discussed.
