Performance of Photometric Stereo (PS) that generates 3D surface by using images with different illumination depends on the selection of light sources. In this work, synthetic images were generated for different surfaces with different reflection models. Surface and normals were reconstructed from these images with PS. Normal and surface errors were analyzed to find minimum error light selection. ©2010 IEEE.

Automatic saturation correction for dynamic range management algorithms
Artusi, Alessandro; POULİ, Tania; BANTERLE, Francesco; Akyüz, Ahmet Oğuz (2018-04-01)
High dynamic range (HDR) images require tone reproduction to match the range of values to the capabilities of a display. For computational reasons and given the absence of fully calibrated imagery, rudimentary color reproduction is often added as a post-processing step rather than integrated into tone reproduction algorithms. In the general case, this currently requires manual parameter tuning, and can be automated only for some global tone reproduction operators by inferring parameters from the tone curve....
Effects of surface reflectance on local second order shape estimation in dynamic scenes.
Dövencioğlu, Nahide Dicle; Ben-Shahar, O; Doerschner, K (2015-10-01)
In dynamic scenes, relative motion between the object, the observer, and/or the environment projects as dynamic visual information onto the retina (optic flow) that facilitates 3D shape perception. When the object is diffusely reflective, e.g. a matte painted surface, this optic flow is directly linked to object shape, a property found at the foundations of most traditional shape-from-motion (SfM) schemes. When the object is specular, the corresponding specular flow is related to shape curvature, a regime c...
Iterative Photometric Stereo with Shadow and Specular Region Detection for 3D Reconstruction
BUYUKATALAY, Soner; BİRGÜL, ÖZLEM; Halıcı, Uğur (2009-04-11)
Photometric stereo is a 3D reconstruction algorithm that uses the images of an object with different light conditions and its performance is affected by the shades and specular regions in the images. Especially, the use of Lambert reflectance model results in errors in the reconstructed surface normals. In this study an iterative approach was used to generate masks corresponding to these problematic regions and the surface normals were reconstructed using a Lambert based algorithm that excludes these region...
Dynamic modeling of optical systems in order to study vibration effect on performance
Avsar, Ahmet Levent; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat (2010-08-03)
In order to determine the vibration effects on performance in optical system, a simple vibratory model is proposed. The model suggested is compared with FE model. Both models are validated by modal tests for an existing simple optical system. The material properties of adhesive, which play an imported role in the vibratory model of an optical system, are found experimentally by using a simple test setup. The model suggested is used to investigate the dynamic behavior of the optical system under random vibra...
Slow light structure with enhanced delay-bandwidth product
Ustun, Kadir; KURT, HAMZA (2012-09-01)
In this study, we propose a special type of slow light photonic crystal (PC) waveguide structure to achieve slow light with an improved delay and bandwidth product (DBP). The waveguide is based on a triangular lattice PC with a line defect imposed by changing the radii and locations of the holes lying along the waveguide centerline. By altering the locations of these central holes, group indices ranging approximately from 25 to 40 are obtained over frequency intervals, attaining a nearly constant group inde...
