We have made a comparative study for the empirical potential energy functions proposed and parametrized for coinacal metals, namely Cu, Ag, and Au. We have considered four different potential energy functions, and applied them to investigate the structural properties and energetics of clusters of the elements considered.

A comparative study of empirical potential energy functions: Applications to silicon microclusters
Erkoç, Şakir; Takahashi, K (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2004-03-01)
A comparative study has been performed for silicon microclusters, Si-3 and Si-4, considering fifteen different empirical potential energy functions. It has been found that only two of the empirical potential energy functions give linear structure more stable for Si-3, the remaining potential functions give triangular structure as more stable. In the case of Si-4 microclusters eight potential functions give open tetrahedral structure as more stable, two functions give perfect tetrahedral as more stable, thre...
Stability of gold clusters: molecular-dynamics simulations
Erkoç, Şakir (2000-09-01)
Structural stability and energetics of gold clusters, Au, (n = 3-555), have been investigated by molecular-dynamics simulations. An empirical model potential energy function has been used in the simulations. Stable structures of the microclusters for n = 3-13 have been determined by molecular-dynamics simulation. It has been found that gold microclusters prefer to form three-dimensional compact structures. Molecular-dynamics simulations have also been performed for spherical gold clusters generated from FCC...
A density functional theory study on the structural and electronic properties of PbxSbySez (x plus y plus z=2, 3) clusters
Pekoz, Rengin; Erkoç, Şakir (2018-01-30)
The structural and electronic properties of neutral ternary PbxSbySez clusters (x y + z = 2, 3) in their ground states have been explored by means of density functional theory calculations. The geometric structures and binding energies are systematically explored and for the most stable configurations of each cluster type vibrational frequencies, charges on atoms, energy difference between highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, and the possible dissociations channels have been analyzed. ...
An energetic, exergetic and thermoeconomic analysis of a gas/steam combined cycle cogeneration plant
Colpan, CO; Yesin, T (2005-06-22)
This paper is a case study of thermodynamic and economics related analyses applied to an existing gas/steam combined cycle cogeneration plant. Basic thermodynamic properties of the plant are determined by energy analysis utilizing main operation conditions. Exergy destruction and losses within the plant are investigated to determine thermodynamic inefficiencies in the system and to assist for guiding future improvements in the plant. Cost bakances are applied to several subsystems in the plant, hence cost f...
Molecular-dynamics simulations of nickel clusters
Erkoç, Şakir; Gunes, B; Gunes, P (2000-07-01)
Structural stability and energetics of nickel clusters, Nih (N = 3 - 459), have been inves tigated by molecular-dynamics simulations, A size-dependent empirical model potential energy function has been used in the simulations. Stable structures of the microclusters with sizes N = 3 - 55 and clusters generated from fee crystal structure with sizes N = 79 - 459 have been determined by molecular-dynamics simulations. It has been found that the fivefold symmetry appears on the surface of the spherical clusters....
