Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic Studies of Diabetic Rat Heart Crude Membranes
Severcan, Feride; Kaptan, Nese; Turan, Belma (Hindawi Limited, 2003)
Application of mid infrared spectroscopy in diabetic tissues will be presented which highlight the promise of this technique in medical research. Examples presented mainly will focus on diabetic rat heart crude membranes. Diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced in rats by streptozotocin (STZ) injection that is one of the most popular experimental models for the study of type I diabetes. The shift in the peak positions, bandwidths and the intensity of the bands in FTIR spectra were analyzed to have valuable struc...
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy suggests unfolding of loop structures precedes complete unfolding of pig citrate synthase
Severcan, Feride; Haris, PI (Wiley, 2003-08-01)
Pig citrate synthase (PCS) can be used as a model enzyme to gain some insight into the structural basis of protein thermostability. The thermal unfolding characteristics of the specific secondary structure elements within PCS were monitored in detail by following changes in its amide I band components. The result of our study indicates that PCS undergoes irreversible thermal denaturation. Detailed analysis reveals that the different secondary structures display a multistep transition with a major and a mino...
Frequency Domain Scattering Delay Networks for Simulating Room Acoustics in Virtual Environments
De Sena, Enzo; Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Cvetkovic, Zoran (2011-11-28)
Modelling, simulation and auralisation of room acoustics plays an important role in computer games and virtual reality applications by increasing the level of realism. Accurate simulation of room acoustics is a computationally costly process which is often substituted with artificial reverberators that provide a computationally simpler alternative. However, such systems lack the accuracy and are not in general able to accurately simulate important aspects of room acoustics such as early reflections, source/...
Numerical simulations on stimulated raman scattering for fiber raman amplifiers and lasers using spectral methods
Berberoğlu, Halil; Çakır, Serhat; Department of Physics (2007)
Optical amplifiers and lasers continue to play its crucial role and they have become an indispensable part of the every fiber optic communication systems being installed from optical network to ultra-long haul systems. It seems that they will keep on to be a promising future technology for high speed, long-distance fiber optic transmission systems. The numerical simulations of the model equations have been already commercialized by the photonic system designers to meet the future challenges. One of the chal...
