A study of the stability of an electrically heated single channel, forced convection horizontal system was conducted by using Freon-11 as the test fluid. Two major modes of oscillations, namely, density-wave type (high frequency) and pressure-drop type (low frequency) oscillations have been observed. The steady-state operating characteristics and stable and unstable regions are determined as a function of heat flux, exit orifice diameter and mass flow rate. Different modes of oscillations and their characteristics have been investigated. The effect of the exit restriction on the system stability has also been studied.

EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY OF UNSTEADY FORCED-CONVECTION IN A DUCT WITH AND WITHOUT ARRAYS OF BLOCK-LIKE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
LI, W; KAKAC, S; HATAY, FF; OSKAY, R (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1993-01-01)
An experimental apparatus was designed, built and used to study the behavior of transient forced convection in a rectangular duct with and without barriers due to a sinusoidal heat input at the inlet. to simulate the electric heating and cooling inside the computer. A wide range of Reynolds number (400 less-than-or-equal-to Re less-than-or-equal-to 20,000) and inlet frequencies (0.01 Hz less-than-or-equal-to beta less-than-or-equal-to 0.08 Hz) was covered in this experimental study for both laminar and turb...
EFFECT OF VERTICAL SEPARATION DISTANCE ON LAMINAR NATURAL CONVECTIVE HEAT-TRANSFER OVER 2 VERTICALLY SPACED EQUITEMPERATURE HORIZONTAL CYLINDERS
Yüncü, Hafit; BATTA, A (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1994-04-01)
A numerical study of laminar natural convective heat transfer in air from a pair of equi-temperature horizontal cylinders placed one above the other in a vertical plane was carried out. Prime attention was focused on how heat transfer characteristics of the upper cylinder are affected by center-to-center separation distance between two cylinders (CCD). The study was limited to Rayleigh number ranging from 2 x 10(4) to 2 x 10(5) . The vertical center-to-center separation distance between the cylinders was va...
Phase behavior of beta-D galactose pentaacetate-carbon dioxide binary system
Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ; Gulari, Esin (Elsevier BV, 2006-01-31)
Phase behavior of beta-D galactose pentaacetate-carbon dioxide binary system is investigated by dew-point and bubble-point measurements conducted in a high pressure variable volume sapphire cell. The phase envelope for solutions of beta-D galactose pentaacetate in supercritical M is obtained for beta-D galactose pentaacetate concentrations between 2 and 26 wt%, and for the temperature range of 308-323 K. The system exhibits lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior and high solubility of beta-D ga...
A Multi-source Micro Power Generator Employing Thermal and Vibration Energy Harvesting
Toreyin, Hakan; Topal, Emre; Külah, Haluk (2010-09-08)
This paper introduces a new cantilever type multi-source energy harvester generating electric power from both ambient heat and vibration. Harvesting energy from vibration was realized by electromagnetic conversion, whereas the energy generation from heat was supplied by making use of Seebeck effect of Cr-Al thermocouples implemented on the microcantilevers. The measured average Seebeck coefficient is 12 mu V/K per thermocouples. A total voltage of 3.3 mV was generated from the thermoelectric part and 13.4 m...
EVALUATION OF SECOND VIRIAL COEFFICIENTS FROM SATURATION DATA
Orbey, H.; Orbey, N. (Informa UK Limited, 1989-3)
A data reduction technique is introduced for the evaluation of second virial coefficients of gases at subcritical temperatures. The method makes use of the vapor-liquid equilibrium data, i.e., temperature, saturation pressure, liquid and vapor molar volumes and can be used to obtain second virial coefficients of a wide variety of fluids including polar, associating and quantum gases. The calculated second virial coefficients are in good agreement with their counterparts from literature, which are obtained f...
