Critical behavior of the disorder-induced Raman modes close to the lambda-phase transition in NH4Cl

This study gives our analysis of the disorder-induced Raman modes of v(7) (93 cm(-1)) and v. (144 cm(-1)) close to the lambda-phase transition (P = 0) in the NH4Cl crystal. We describe the critical behavior of the frequency shifts for those modes by a power-law formula and using our Raman data we obtain the value of 0.1 for the critical exponent which can also describe the critical behavior of the thermal expansivity and the specific heat of NH4Cl Close to its A-phase transition (T-lambda = 242.9 K).

In this study we introduce the spectroscopic modifications of Pippard relations and apply them to the disorder-induced Raman modes of NH4Cl in the first-order (P = 0) and second-order (2.8 kbar) phase regions in this crystalline system. We obtain Linear variations of the specific heat C-p with out observed frequency shifts [(l/nu)(partial derivative nu/partial derivativeT)(p)] of those Raman modes studied for the first-order and second-order phase transitions in NH4Cl. This will be discussed in detail.

We study here the temperature dependence of our Raman bandwidths for the upsilon(5) lattice modes of NH4Cl (T-lambda = 241 K) and NH4Br (T-lambda = 235 K) and for the upsilon(2) internal mode of NH4Cl close to the lambda-phase transitions.

In this thesis we investigate the pressure and temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies for diffirent modes of benzene at ambient conditions (P=0 GPa and T=300 K).
