© 2016 IEEE.Analysing mouse behavior in medical experiments to determine adverse effects of medical drugs requires special expertise and it is a time consuming tedious task. Automatic scaling of facial pain mimics in mice are important for a fast and objective labeling. Although there exists a manual procedure for scaling mouse facial pain expression, a full automatic method does not exist yet. In this paper, a computational method is proposed for assessment of pain through facial expressions of mouses in experiments where pain paradigms are applied. For this purpose, mouse face regions in videos were extracted manually frame by frame and also their pain scales were labeled by experts in order to construct a data set. Then, this data set were used for training a neural network using deep learning. The results obtained in this preliminary study, where a limited dataset of still images was used, are quite encouraging. Our studies in order to make our results more reliable and to devolope a fully automatic approach for scaling mouse grimace in videos are still going on.

INTEGRATIVE NETWORK MODELLING OF DRUG RESPONSES IN CANCER FOR REVEALING MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ünsal Beyge, Şeyma; Tunçbağ, Nurcan; Department of Medical Informatics (2021-9-6)
Classification of cancer drugs is crucial for drug repurposing since the cost and innovation deficit make new drug development processes challenging. Heterogeneity of cancer causes drug classification purely based on known mechanism of action (MoA) and the list of target proteins to be insufficient. Multi-omic data integration is necessary for a systems biology perspective to understand molecular mechanisms and interactions between cellular entities underlying the disease. This study integrates drug-target ...
Morphine biotransformation by microbial phenol oxidases
Erdural Korkmaz, Beril; Bakır, Ufuk; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
The objective of this study is to perform morphine biotransformation by using phenol oxidases. Syctalidium thermophilum, Thermomyces lanuginosus and Phanerochaete chrysosporium cells and culture fluid were used as microbial intracellular and extracellular phenol oxidases. Besides the phenol oxidases produced in laboratory, commercial pure phenol oxidases, A. bisporus tyrosinase and laccase, T. versicolor laccase and horseradish peroxidase, were also used in the morphine biotransformation reactions. Morphine...
Disease signature extraction for obsessive compulsive disorder using effective connectivity analysis based on dynamic causal modelling
Yüksel, Alican; Halıcı, Uğur; Çiçek, Metehan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
In neuroscience, there exist some studies on activations of human brain used to detect mental disorders and to extract their signatures. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is one of the most common mental disorder that is encountered. Although there are many studies concern about this disorder by using functional Magnetic Resonance Imagining (fMRI), there exist very limited studies for extracting OCD signature that is extracting features from brain activity data to discriminate successfully OCD and healthy...
Surface functionalization of SBA - 15 particles for amoxicillin delivery
Sevimli, Filiz F; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Department of Chemistry (2011)
There are several studies in order to control drug delivery, decrease the toxicity of drugs and also for novel biomedical applications. It is necessary to be able to control the release of the drug within the body by using drug delivery systems. Mesoporous silica compounds have only been discovered twenty years ago and they have already attracted many researchers to study these materials for several applications. SBA-15 particles have a highly ordered regular structure and are a good matrix for guest-host a...
