Estimators of vital events in dual-record systems

2000-02-01
Ayhan, Hüseyin Öztaş
Dual-record system estimation has been widely used to obtain vital events in the past. Because of the weakness of the statistical assumptions of the model, as well as the biases involved in the estimators, its use became limited. The proposed estimators for dual-record systems are based on further division of the cells of the original table. The results have shown that they improved the underestimation of the total counts when compared with the classical Chandra Sekar-Deming estimator.

A Practical optimum design of steel structures with scatter search method and SAP2000
Korkut, Ahmet Esat; Hasançebi, Oğuzhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
In the literature, a large number of metaheuristic search techniques have been proposed up to present time and some of those have been used in structural optimization. Scatter search is one of those techniques which has proved to be effective when solving combinatorial and nonlinear optimization problems such as scheduling, routing, financial product design and other problem areas. Scatter search is an evolutionary method that uses strategies based on a composite decision rules and search diversification an...
An automated conversion of temporal databases into XML with fuzziness option
Işıkman, Ömer Özgün; Polat, Faruk; Özyer, Tansel; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
The importance of incorporating time in databases has been well realized by the community and time varying databases have been extensively studied by researchers. The main idea is to model up-to-date changes to data since it became available. Time information is mostly overlaid on the traditional databases, and extensional time dimension helps in inquiring or past data; this all becomes possible only once the idea is realized and favored by commercial database management systems. Unfortunately, one disadvan...
Evaluation of intensity measures for ground motion selection to be used in the analysis of highway flyover bridges
Akray, Ayha; Caner, Alp; Department of Earthquake Studies (2019)
Time history analysis that requires a proper ground motion selection is becoming popular as computational methods advance. It has been known that scaling any ground motion will not be the best fit to be used in the time history analysis. Over the years, scientists have studied recorded ground motion data by the help of a set of intensity measures to characterize the movement. The aim of this study is to compare intensity measures of ground motions with seismic demand parameters used in nonlinear time histor...
Analysis of the effect of element radiation pattern in the performance of mimo arrays used in imaging applications
Altuntaş, Fırat; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2020-10-11)
Along with the developments in technology, complexity of the systems tends to increase. Consequently rigorous models that take into account of all the effects in such complex systems become very time consuming. In this study, an ultra-wide band (UWB) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) imaging system is considered and a simple model that is generally used in the analysis of such systems is improved with an effort to obtain results closer to those achieved by rigorous models. Simple or rigorous models simu...
Effects of kind and amount of cognitive load and duration on prospective time estimation
Bıyık Sarı, Fatma; Hohenberger, Annette Edeltraud; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2015)
The estimation of temporal intervals is influenced by characteristics of a secondary task carried out during those intervals. Different kinds of cognitive load (e.g., memory load, attentional demand) and different amounts of load (low, high) of the secondary tasks modulate time estimation. Increase in the amount of cognitive load decreases time estimation. According to the Attentional Gate Model this is because the more attention is allocated to the secondary task, the less attention is left for the primary...
