In this paper, active chain is introduced as a chain coded contour whose shape is changed during iterations while it stays closed, clockwise and 4 connected. The iterations of the proposed algorithm move the chain items toward the interior region. This behaviour is similar to the active contours (snakes). If the initial contour is counter-clockwise, the same algorithm causes the active chain to expand like a balloon and detect the inner boundaries of the regions. The chain coded contours of all the separate regions can be detected in one pass in O(NM) where N and M are the image dimensions in pixels.

A robust algorithm for configurational-force-driven brittle crack propagation with R-adaptive mesh alignment
MIEHE, CHRISTIAN; Gürses, Ercan (2007-10-08)
The paper considers a variational formulation of brittle fracture in elastic solids and proposes a numerical implementation by a finite element method. On the theoretical side, we outline a consistent thermodynamic framework for crack propagation in an elastic solid. It is shown that both the elastic equilibrium response as well as the local crack evolution follow in a natural format by exploitation of a global Clausius-Planck inequality in the sense of Coleman's method. Here, the canonical direction of the...
A CIRCLE DETECTION APPROACH BASED ON RADON TRANSFORM
Okman, O. Erman; Akar, Gözde (2013-05-31)
In this paper a novel fast circle detection algorithm is proposed which depends on the spatial properties of the connected components on the image. Two 1-D transforms of each connected component is obtained by taking the Radon Transform of the image for two different directions, which are in fact the integrations of the image through horizontal and vertical directions. Circles are detected using the similarities of detected peaks on the transformed functions and the characteristics of the values in between ...
A Simple Method to Design Ridge Waveguide Filters with Evanescent Mode Couplings
Ozturk, Onur Ozan; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2022-01-01)
A simple approach is introduced to design ridge waveguide (RWG) filters with evanescent waveguide (EWG) couplings based on the observation that when all inverters and all resonators of an inverter coupled filter are replaced by equal length EWG pieces and equal length RWG pieces respectively, all responses are destroyed (bandwidth changes, passband shifts away and passband ripple increases) but the number of reflection zeros are preserved. It is noticed that the targeted responses of this highly distorted f...
The investigation of electronic, anisotropic elastic and lattice dynamical properties of MAB phase nanolaminated ternary borides: M 2 AlB 2 ( M = Mn , Fe and Co ) under spin effects
Surucu, Gokhan; YILDIZ, BUĞRA; Erkisi, Aytac; Wang, Xiaotian; Surucu, Ozge (Elsevier BV, 2020-10-01)
In the present study, the structural, electronic, magnetic, anisotropic elastic and lattice dynamic properties of the ternary metal borides (, and ) known as MAB phases have been investigated by density functional theory. The obtained results from the structural optimizations show that all these compounds have negative formation enthalpy implying the thermodynamic stability and synthesizability. The spin effects on the phases have been studied with the plotted energy-volume curves for different magnetic pha...
A new modal superposition method for nonlinear vibration analysis of structures using hybrid mode shapes
Ferhatoglu, Erhan; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat (Elsevier BV, 2018-07-01)
In this paper, a new modal superposition method based on a hybrid mode shape concept is developed for the determination of steady state vibration response of nonlinear structures. The method is developed specifically for systems having nonlinearities where the stiffness of the system may take different limiting values. Stiffness variation of these nonlinear systems enables one to define different linear systems corresponding to each value of the limiting equivalent stiffness. Moreover, the response of the n...
