Grain size distributions in airborne dust, river-suspended loads, and marine sediments from southeastern Turkey (NE Mediterranean Sea)
Ediger, Vedat (2020-01-01)
Between February 2001 and January 2002, near the coast of Erdemli, southeastern Turkey, 7 airborne dust samples, 7 coastal river-suspended sediment samples, and 3 marine sediment cores were collected. The main objective of this study was to understand the interrelationships among the multisources, multitransportation paths, and changing depositional conditions around the continental shelf of the Lamas River delta. In addition to a detailed study of satellite photos to track atmospheric dust in the region, g...
Sedimentary geochemical evidence of historical tsunamis in the Eastern Mediterranean from oludeniz Lagoon, SW Turkey
Avşar, Ulaş (2019-03-01)
In the Eastern Mediterranean and southern Aegean seas, historical records indicate there were 17 tsunamis in the last 2500years with intensities>6 on a 12-point tsunami intensity scale. Regional geologic records of past tsunamis, however, are not sufficiently well-documented to assess tsunami hazards. This study presents geochemical evidence of historic tsunamis in the Eastern Mediterranean for the last 700years, detected in the sedimentary sequence of oludeniz Lagoon, SW Turkey. Sediment chronology was est...
Sedimentary features of some jurassic-cretaceous olistostromes between Alcı and Balkuyumcu, southwest of Ankara

Mineralization, textural and alteration characteristics of the Şahinli (Sırakayalar and Karatepe) low-sulfidation epithermal deposit (Lapseki, NW Turkey)
Dilekler, Gülnur; İmer, Ali; Department of Geological Engineering (2022-5-06)
The Şahinli Au-Ag deposit is located in Lapseki (Çanakkale), within the NW part of the Biga Peninsula. Mineralized veins are hosted in Permo-Triassic Çamlıca metamorphics and dacite porphyries of middle Eocene Beyçayır volcanics. Au-Ag mineralization occurs in two distinct zones, the Sırakayalar and Karatepe sectors, which occupy eastern and western flanks of a NW-trending steeply-incised valley, respectively. Karatepe comprises a series of structurally-controlled NNW- and E–W-trending, steeply-dipping quar...
Sedimentary cyclicity and micropaleontological investigations in the upper triassic shallow marine carbonate successions (central and western taurides, turkey)
Coşkun Tunaboylu, Burcu; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
Shallowing-upward meter-scale cycles (parasequences) consisting of megalodont-bearing limestones or clay levels at the bottom and fenestral limestones, breccias, stromatolites or vadose pisoids at the top constitute the basic working units of the Upper Triassic successions in the Central and Western Taurides. These cycles are mainly represented by subtidal through supratidal carbonate facies and known as Lofer cycles in the literature. The presence of breccias, mud cracks, dissolution vugs and vadose pisoid...
