End-to-end networks for detection and tracking of micro unmanned aerial vehicles
Aker, Cemal; Kalkan, Sinan; Department of Computer Engineering (2018)
As the number of micro unmanned aerial vehicles (mUAV) increases, several threats arise. Hence, there is a need for a system that can detect and track them. In this thesis, an object detection model based on convolutional neural networks for mUAV detection, and a novel end-to-end object tracking architecture are proposed. To solve the scarce data problem for training the detection network, an algorithm for creating an extensive artificial dataset by combining background-subtracted real images is proposed. I...
End effect evaluation in rheological measurement of drilling fluids using Coutte coaxial cylinder viscometer
Gücüyener, I. Hakki; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Batmaz, Taner (2002-05-01)
This paper demonstrates the order of influence of end effects on the application of a theory to determine and correct the end effects in Couette coaxial cylinder rotational viscometers, which are commonly used for the rheological evaluation of drilling fluids. It is found that higher shear stresses are measured due to end effects and, consequently, this error bearing shear stress-shear rate data leads to unreliable predictions of the rheological parameters. Evaluation of the shear stress-shear rate data obt...
End-of-life analysis for brick debris: recovery, strength, life cycle cost and environmental assessment
Üçer Erduran, Deniz; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2018)
There exists a vast stock of masonry buildings in the world, yet, some of them are being demolished and disposed of; owing to the changes in building bye-laws, redundancies of buildings; and clearing the plots for new and mostly taller buildings. Either demolition or deconstruction is preferred; huge amounts of masonry-based waste are accumulated in the end. On the other end, since these buildings are not always demolished due to wear and tear, the condition of masonry walls after demolition may still be of...
Endmember Signature Based Detection of Flammable Gases in LWIR Hyperspectral Images
Omruuzun, Fatih; Çetin, Yasemin (2015-04-21)
Segmentation and identification of compounds or materials existing in a scene is a crucial process. Hyperspectral sensors operating in different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum are able to quantify spectral characteristics of materials in different states. Due to the fact that some chemical compounds in gas state have insignificant light reflectance characteristics in visible region of the spectrum, imaging sensors operating in infrared regions are needed to sense energy absorbency characteristics o...
Life cycle cost and environmental impact analysis of ship hull maintenance strategies for a short route hybrid ferry
Wang, Haibin; Oğuz, Elif; Jeong, Byongug; Zhou, Peilin (Elsevier BV, 2018-08-01)
This paper provides a general insight into the importance of proper hull maintenance and suggests an optimal maintenance strategy for ship operators from both an economic and environmental point of view. Results of life cycle assessment show that significant cost reductions can be obtained by renewing steels every 10 years within the proposed hull maintenance strategy. The assessment also indicates that annual hull inspections and re-coating can contribute to reducing hull resistance and hence fuel consumpt...
