The primary objective of this project is to develop fundamental knowledge on the production techniques, characterization and methods of applications of semiconductor Nan crystals to light emitting devices and floating gate memories. Three main research directions can be identified in the project: First, physics and chemistry of a number of elemental, alloy and compound semiconductor Nan crystal formation and mechanisms of charge transport and light emission will be studied in a systematic way to acquire fundamental knowledge. Second, methods and technology of obtaining new materials with well-characterized Nan crystals suitable for use in device work will be developed. Finally, devices such as Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) for use in flash memories and light-emitting devices (Leeds) will be designed, fabricated and tested as prototypes of devices incorporating the unique features of Nan crystals. Full cycle starting from material processing to the demonstration of devices will be covered. Different materials, production techniques, processing conditions and characterization techniques will be employed to reach comprehensive results for the science and technology of semiconductor Nan crystals. As its main objectives are strongly related to the size dependent phenomena in semiconductors and its outcomes will form the basis for the new production techniques in the modern microelectronic and photon industry, this project addresses topics with the following activity codes of NMP Work Program: 3.4.1.1. , 3.4.3.1.The project has been broken into 3 main work packages: WP1 deals with the Is and Gee Nan crystals prepared in different media and processed by various techniques. WP2 is related to the production and characterization of some alloy and compound semiconductor Nan crystals. WP3 deals with the application of the materials studied in the first two work packages to the devices mentioned above.

Magnetic Fe3O4-chitosan micro- and nanoparticles for wastewater treatment
ŞAHBAZ, DENİZ AKIN; YAKAR, ARZU; Gündüz, Ufuk (2019-08-18)
In this study, first, magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) were synthesized using a coprecipitation method and the synthesized particles were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). According to DLS and VSM analyses results, it was seen that the size of the MNP was smaller than 10 nm and they exhibited superparamagnetic properties, respectively. Then, magnetic Fe3O4-chitosan micro/n...
Characterization of adsorption-desorption properties of oxygen & water on mixed oxides
Ateş, Cihan; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2015)
The scope of this study includes the development of a methodology to determine a candidate material for two step thermochemical heat storage applications via fundamental principles of thermodynamics. The feasibility of utilizing stored thermochemical energy to produce CO from CO2 and H2 from H2O was demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. Metal oxide selection criteria were chosen as transport, kinetic and thermodynamic constraints. As a result Co3O4 was considered worthy of further investigation. Th...
Synthesis of Emulsion-Templated Acrylic-Based Porous Polymers: From Brittle to Elastomeric
Tunc, Yeliz; Hasırcı, Nesrin; ULUBAYRAM, KEZBAN (2012-01-01)
High internal phase emulsion polymers (PolyHIPEs) are novel materials that have high porosity and interconnected open-cell structure and are used in various applications such as supports for catalytic systems, media for separation of similar molecules, and scaffolds for tissue engineering. In this study, 90% porous acrylic based polyHIPE structures with various cellular structure and mechanical characteristics were developed by using stearyl acrylate (SA), isodecyl acrylate (IDA), isobornyl methacrylate (IB...
Production and characterization of boron nitride nanotubes
Özmen, Didem; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Department of Chemical Engineering (2008)
The further developments in nanotechnology in last few years provide usage of nanoscale particles for many applications in various areas such as electronics, pharmaceutical, and biomedical due to their strengthened mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Boron nitride nanotubes are a good example of nanoparticles. In this study, boron nitride nanotubes were successfully synthesized from the reaction of ammonia gas with mixture of boron and iron oxide. Physical and structural properties of the synthes...
INVESTIGATION OF DONOR, ACCEPTOR AND SUBSTITUENT EFFECT ON PHTHALIMIDE AND THIENO[3,4-c]PYRROLE-4,6-DIONE BASED DONOR-ACCEPTOR-DONOR TYPE MONOMERS AND POLYMERS
Çakal, Deniz; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Cihaner, Atilla; Department of Chemistry (2021-11-26)
Conjugated organic materials comprise a major field of material chemistry focused on the improvement of new building blocks for the synthesis of novel semiconducting materials with advanced functional properties. Such semiconducting systems have the advantage of low cost, solution processability and flexibility and find many applications in the field of plastic photovoltaics, electrochromics and display technologies. The electronic and optical features of these semiconducting organic materials can be tailor...
