Structural characterization of iron-based bulk metallic glass alloys produced by centrifugal casting
PEHLIVANOGLU, MK; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; BOR, A Sakir (2003-05-01)
In this study bulk metallic glass alloys in the Fe-Zr-B-M (M=Al, Co, Cu, Mo, Ni, W) systemwere produced by using a centrifugal casting method. The thickness ofthe samples that could be produced with an almost completely amorphousstructure was found to be as high as similar to2 mm for alloy Fe60Co8Zr10Mo5W2B15. Alloying element additions or replacements have resulted in a considerable effect on glass-forming ability. Among others, Al and Cu were found to have the most deteriorative effects. The ternary alloy...
Sulfate resistance of cementitious systems with mineral additives
Dilek, Faruk Tuncer; Tokyay, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2002)
Sulfate resistance of mortars containing limestone, trass, granulated blast furnace slag and fly ash has been evaluated using ASTM C 1012 test procedure. Prismatic and cubic mortar specimens have been stored in concentrated sodium sulfate and a mixture of sodium sulfate + magnesium sulfate solutions. Relative deterioration of the specimens has been determined by length change, weight change, strength and visual examination. From similar mixtures, cement paste specimens were prepared and structure/morphology...
Refinement of primary carbides in AISI DC 53 cold work tool steel by thin section copper permanent mould casting and water atomization
ÇARDAKLI, İSMAİL SEÇKİN; Kalkanlı, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 2019-05-01)
In this study, as alternative methods to conventional production methods involving thin section copper permanent mould casting (fast solidification) and water atomization (rapid solidification) of AISI DC 53 cold work tool steel have been investigated. Thin slabs obtained by copper mould casting was homogenized at 1150 degrees C for one hour and then hot rolling was be applied. After hot rolling, conventional heat treatment have been applied to thin slabs. The same heat treatment procedure have been perform...
Preparation and characterization of micron size serpentine filled abs composite
Alakoç, Mustafa Can; Tinçer, Teoman; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2008)
Micron size non-treated / silane coupling agent (SCA) treated serpentine filled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) composite preparation and characterization of composites in terms of mechanical, thermal, flow properties and morphology were studied in this work. First step of the study was the size reduction of the as collected serpentine mineral. Secondly, three types of silane coupling agent treatments were applied to serpentine which were gamma-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (A-174), beta-(3,4-epo...
Shear strength of cement-grout borehole plug
Akgün, Haluk (2000-01-01)
The theoretical normal stress and shear strength distributions along the plug-rock interfaces of axially loaded expansive cement-grout borehole plugs cast in rock cylinders, determination of interfacial shear strength parameters, and experimental analyses of plug-rock mechanical interactions are presented as a function of uniform curing and testing temperature and of borehole size. The results of the back analysis show that the angle of internal friction along the plug-rock interface remains almost constant...
