Mediterranean ocean forecasting system : toward environmental predictions (MFSTEP)

2006-5-31
Özsoy, Emin
This proposal seeks the consolidation and further expansion of a Mediterranean marine forecasting system based upon the elements implemented during a previous EU funded Project. The goal is to advance the monitoring technology to achieve maximum reliability of the observing system, to demonstrate the practical feasibility of regional and shelf scale forecasting in several Mediterranean sub-regions and to start the development of end-users interfaces for the exploitation of the project products. The proposal is called 'Mediterranean Forecasting System Toward Environmental Predictions-MFSTEP' because it introduces elements of a multidisciplinary and multiparametric observing system, together with the modelling components that will allow, in a successive phase, to carry out deterministic marine biochemical elements predictions.

Challenges for Sustained Observing and Forecasting Systems in the Mediterranean Sea
Tintore, Joaquin; et. al. (2019-09-13)
The Mediterranean community represented in this paper is the result of more than 30 years of EU and nationally funded coordination, which has led to key contributions in science concepts and operational initiatives. Together with the establishment of operational services, the community has coordinated with universities, research centers, research infrastructures and private companies to implement advanced multi-platform and integrated observing and forecasting systems that facilitate the advancement of oper...
Europe’s security challenges and transatlantic relations
Çilkoparan, Hidayet; Bağcı, Hüseyin; Department of International Relations (2018)
This thesis seeks to analyse the European Union’s current security structure, by taking into account the roles of the United States of America (USA) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and then to explore potential implications of the changes in transatlantic relations. Since World War II, NATO, under the leadership of the USA, has been serving as the main security provider for Europe. Although NATO’s relevance was questioned after the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union a...
Motivators and barriers for green building construction market in Turkey
Gündoğan, Handan; Aydın, İsmail; Altan Sakarya, Ayşe Burcu; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
‘Green Buildings’ play an important role to increase the implementation of sustainable strategies in the construction industry. Although there is a process of change within Turkish building environment towards implementation of green strategies nowadays, limited research has been conducted to search the reasons that drive the market and the important barriers that block the green building movement. This thesis is intended to fill this gap in the literature and contribute to the field of knowledge regarding ...
Global Migration From the Eastern Mediterranean and Eurasia: Security and Human Rights Challenges to Europe (GLOMIG)
Ayata, Ayşe(2008-3-31)
The main objective of this project is to foster international cooperation between the EU and the INCO countries by organising workshops, forming expert groups, and providing policy recommendations to officials and other stakeholders on global migration. The project focuses on the Western Balkans; Caucasus; Russia, Eastern Mediterranean and Turkey. More specifically, the project aims to contribute to the European Research Area through the creation of a common platform. It will enable interested parties from ...
Multimedia data modeling and semantic analysis by multimodal decision fusion
Güder, Mennan; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
In this thesis, we propose a multi-modal event recognition framework based on the integration of event modeling, fusion, deep learning and, association rule mining. Event modeling is achieved through visual concept learning, scene segmentation and association rule mining. Visual concept learning is employed to reveal the semantic gap between the visual content and the textual descriptors of the events. Association rules are discovered by a specialized association rule mining algorithm where the proposed str...
