Production of Cellulase and Xylanase Enzymes Using Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) by Trichoderma reeseiat Shake-Flask Scale and the Validation in the Benchtop Scale Bioreactor
Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-01-01)
Most of the corn-ethanol plants use dry-mill process and generate large volume of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) as the co-product. The DDGS is a promising feedstock with rich content of cellulose and xylan. The goal of this study was to optimize cellulase and xylanase production byTrichoderma reesei(NRRL 6156) using DDGS as the carbon source at shake-flask and validate the results at benchtop bioreactors. The fermentation medium containing varied amounts of dilute-acid pretreated DDGS, yeast ...
PRODUCTION OF SUPEROXIDE RADICALS BY SHEEP LIVER NITROFURANTOIN REDUCTASE - IN-VITRO EFFECTS OF NITROFURANTOIN METABOLITES ON DNA
ISCAN, M; MODARESI, M; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün (1995-10-01)
The reduction of nitrofurantoin by purified liver nitrofurantoin reductase was followed by the production of superoxide radicals, which were detected by the reduction of epinephrine. The conditions for the formation of superoxide radicals were optimized. The maximum superoxide radical formation occurred at approximately 3.5 mu g purified reductase, with optimum pH of 7.8 and at 0.05 mM nitrofurantoin concentration. The K-m and V-max values were calculated as 1.95 x 10(-2) mM and 4.81 nmol superoxide formed ...
PRODUCTION OF VIRUS LIKE PARTICLES EXPRESSING ALPHA (B.1.1.7) OR DELTA PLUS (B.1.617.2.1) SPIKE VARIANTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF A PSEUDOTYPED VIRUS NEUTRALIZATION ASSAY
Güvençli, Neşe; Gürsel, Mayda; Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (2022-2-10)
Vaccines are one of the most important public health interventions to combat the spread of infectious diseases. All currently approved COVID-19 vaccines target Spike antigen derived from the authentic Wuhan strain. However, with the emergence of new variants effectiveness of the current vaccines declined, commensurate to their ability to generate neutralizing antibodies against some variants of concern (VOC). Since new VOCs are predicted to emerge the next 2-4 years, variant specific vaccines are urgently n...
Production of a novel bifunctional catalase-phenol oxidase of Scytalidium thermophilum in the presence of phenolic compounds
YUZUGULLU, Yonca; Ogel, ZÜMRÜT BEGÜM; BOLUKBASI, Ufuk Bakir; Çoruh, Nursen; Karakaş, Gürkan (2011-01-01)
A novel bifunctional catalase with additional phenol oxidase activity (CATPO) is produced by the thermophilic fungus, Scytalidium thermophilum, in a growth-associated manner. In order to study the biological significance of this dual enzyme in relation to phenolic compounds, 14 phenolics were tested for their effect on growth and CATPO production. It was determined that some phenolics exerted a negative effect on growth (catechol, coumaric acid, hydroquinone, kaempferol, myricetin), while others either did ...
PRODUCTION OF THE LEPIDOPTERA-SPECIFIC CRYSTAL PROTEIN BY A LOCAL ISOLATE OF BACILLUS-THURINGIENSIS
AFKHAMI, P; Özcengiz, Gülay; ALAEDDINOGLU, NG (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1993-12-01)
A local isolate of Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.81) produced crystal protein was identified as a cry I gene of Class I. The synthesis and assembly of crystal complements were investigated at intervals throughout the growth cycle. Incubation temperature had a marked effect on toxin synthesis; production being the highest at 25-degrees-C and the lowest at 42-degrees-C. The mutants of B. t. 81, unable to synthesize crystal protein complements, have also been described.
