Morphometric and genetic variability of honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) populations from northern Iran
Kence, Meral; Farhoud, Houmen Jabbari; Tunca, Rahsan Ivgin (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
Samples from seven honey bee populations; five Apis mellifera meda from Iran and two from Turkey, one belonging to A. m. meda and one to A. m. caucasica, were investigated using morphometric, mtDNA, and microsatellite analyses. Morphometric analysis revealed three distinct clusters. The first included all Iranian populations, whilst the second and third contained the meda and caucasica bees from Turkey. No variation was observed in the DraI restriction of COI-COII intergenic region in mitochondrial DNA, yie...
Morphometric analysis of oppiid mites (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Turkey
BARAN, ŞULE; Altun, Ayhan; AYYILDIZ, Nusret; Kence, Aykut (2011-08-01)
In order to assess the relationship between the oppiid mite species (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Turkey, traditional and geometric morphometric methods were used. We have taken photographs of 128 specimens belonging to 11 species from six subfamilies of Oppiidae. These photographs were digitized and 17 interval measurements were taken for traditional morphometric analysis, and 20 landmarks were recognized on the ventral surface of each specimen for geometric morphometric analysis. The effectiveness to ...
Morphometric and genetic differentiation between anatolia and Cyprus bonbus(bombus)terrestris (l.1758)populations
Beton, Damla; Kence, Aykut; Department of Biology (2004)
Four microsatellite loci were used to investigate differentiation in Bombus terrestris, a bumblebee of interest for its high value crops pollination. Two bumblebee populations, one from Ankara (the capital of Turkey) and one from North Cyprus were analyzed. In these populations, the total number of alleles detected per polymorphic locus ranged from 7 to 12. FST genetic distance between Ankara and North Cyprus B. terrestris populations based on four microsatellite loci was calculated as 0,09351. This applies...
Morphometric and genetic analyses on freshwater fish, Pseudophoxinus (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) populations in Turkey
Altun, Ayhan; Kence, Aykut; Kence, Meral; Department of Biology (2017)
With exceptional species richness and high level of endemism the Mediterranean region is recognized as one of the most important freshwater biodiversity hotspots in the world. One of the main temperate Mediterranean refugia is Anatolia with high biodiversity and strong genetic imprints. Complex patterns of population structure within the Mediterranean refugia are the results of the existence of fragmented distribution, dispersion process and gene flow occurred during range expansion in the interglacial peri...
