Time-optimal production control in a manufacturing system
BAK, T.; Yurtseven, M. Kudret (Informa UK Limited, 1987-1)
This study demonstrates the use of control engineering techniques to regulate the product inventory levels of a workshop in a manufacturing system by manipulating the number of machines and the labour time employed during production. The production policy that minimizes the production time is obtained by time-optimal control techniques.
Time-variant reliability analysis incorporating multiple deterioration and live load models
Berenji, V. G.; Akgül, Ferhat (2016-10-20)
Bridge elements deteriorate with time due to exposure to different environmental attacks, distress mechanisms and live loads effects. In order to optimize the time-variant life-cycle costs or to obtain realistic time-variant reliability profiles, however, time-variant load and resistance models are needed. This paper presents a comparison of time-dependent reliability profiles for bridges obtained by using different deterioration (distress mechanisms) and live load models. To calculate the time-variant reli...

Time-domain simulation of directive sources in 3-D digital waveguide mesh-based acoustical models
Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Günel Kılıç, Banu (2008-07-01)
Digital waveguide mesh (DWM) models offer a simple, accurate, time-domain, numerical solution of the wave equation. A specific case where such accurate and computationally simple solutions are needed is the acoustical modeling of open or closed volumes. It is possible to model 3-D propagation of waves in enclosures such as rooms using DWM models. Generally, idealized omnidirectional sources are used for obtaining the impulse response in the DWM. However, real-life sound sources are never completely isotropi...
Time pressure as video game design element and basic need satisfaction
Yıldırım, İrem Gökçe; Uysal, Ahmet; Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Department of Modeling and Simulation (2015)
Over the last few decades, with the help of technological advancements in computational power and improvements in interaction design, video games have been prominent instruments for entertainment. With increasing number of players, researchers mainly have focused on revealing underlying psychological reasons behind gaming. By applying Self-Determination Theory (SDT) in gaming context, it is concluded that satisfactions of three basic intrinsic needs, namely, autonomy, competence and relatedness, are the pre...
