Morphometric and electrophoretic variation in different honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) populations

Honeybee colonies from Turkey, Naxcivan (Azerbajan) and Austria were studied for morphometric and electrophoretic variation and for comparison among different subspecies. Out of six enzyme systems, four were found to be polymorphic with 14 allozymes. Discriminant function analysis of 10 morphometric variables resulted in a total of four groups. Cluster analysis of electrophoretic data showed a similar type of groupings. Among the four polymorphic loci, Mdh-1 showed the highest and Est-3 the lowest differentiation among populations.

Pseudophleum anatolicum, a New Endemic Species of Pseudophleum (Poaceae) from East Anatolia, Turkey

Pseudophleum anatolicum (Poaceae: Poeae), a new species collected from Bingol Province in East Anatolia, Turkey, is described and illustrated as the second species of the genus ever discovered. The new species is distinguished from Pseudophleum gibbum by its larger spikelets and floral parts, rather longer acuminate ligules and anthers, as well as its phytogeography.
Polymorphism of M factors in populations of the housefly, Musca domestica L., in Turkey

M factors, which determine maleness in Musca domestica, were found on the second, third, fourth and fifth linkage groups in housefly populations of Turkey. As in European populations, the male-determining factor was more frequently located on linkage group III (M-III). Some males homozygous or double heterozygous for M factors were identified.
