Experimental and numerical investigation of the fretting fatigue of dissimilar mating surfaces
Korkmaz, Yezdan Medet; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
Fretting fatigue experiments and simulations were performed for dissimilar mating materials. In the first part of the study, experiments were conducted using different pad materials to clarify the effect of fretting fatigue on the dissimilar mating materials in terms of friction force, contact surfaces, and fatigue life of the substrate material. Steel and Aluminum pad materials were used in experiments. According to results, fretting fatigue life of the substrate material was dependent on the pad material....

Experimental and numerical investigation of shrinkage mechanism of plain and reinforced concrete members
Albostan, Utku; Kurç, Özgür; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2020-9)
Concrete shrinkage is a long-term process causing a reduction in the volume of a concrete member. In the majority of the concrete models, shrinkage is considered as a uniform unrestrained shortening through the longest dimension, but in reality, due to the existence of aggregates and reinforcing bars, which restrains the shrinkage deformations, a non-homogeneous strain distribution occurs within the member. In order to measure such non-homogeneous deformations on an entire surface, digital image corre...
Experimental and numerical study of detonation in a closed chamber
İncekürk, Tuğberk; Ulaş, Abdullah; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2016)
The main objective of the thesis is to investigate the performance behavior of high explosive charges in a specific confined space with numerical methods and experiments. Internal blast performances of four different cylindrical high explosive charges in a closed spherical detonation chamber are evaluated and the results are compared with numerical simulations. For the numerical studies, in order to model explosives, widely used JWL equation of state is used. Numerical simulations are accomplished by commer...
