NEMATIC-SMECTIC A TRICRITICAL PHASE-TRANSITION IN BINARY MIXTURE OF LIQUID-CRYSTALS
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1992-10-01)
The nematic-smectic A tricritical phase transition has been studied in binary mixtures of liquid crystals. By making the analogy between the "quasi-binary" fluid mixture and binary mixture of liquid crystals, we adapt the thermodynamic model for fluid mixtures due to Griffiths to the case of mixtures of liquid crystals.
Edge strength functions as shape priors in image segmentation
Erdem, E; Erdem, A; Tari, S (2005-01-01)
Many applications of computer vision requires segmenting out of an object of interest from a given image. Motivated by unlevel-sets formulation of Raviv, Kiryati and Sochen [8] and statistical formulation of Leventon, Crimson and Faugeras [6], we present a new image segmentation method which accounts for prior shape information. Our method depends on Ambrosio-Tortorelli approximation of Mumford-Shah functional. The prior shape is represented by a by-product of this functional, a smooth edge indicator functi...
Flexible waveguides with amorphous photonic materials
Sarihan, Murat Can; Yilmaz, Yildirim Batuhan; Erdil, Mertcan; Aras, Mehmet Sirin; Yanik, Cenk; Wong, Chee Wei; Kocaman, Serdar (2019-01-01)
Amorphous photonic materials offer an alternative to photonic crystals as a building block for photonic integrated circuits due to their shared short-range order. By using the inherent disorder of amorphous photonic materials, it is possible to design flexible-shaped waveguides that are free from restrictions of photonic crystals at various symmetry axes. Effects of disorder on photonic crystal waveguide boundaries have examined before, and it is shown that flexible waveguides with high transmission are pos...
Object Based Classification of Multi temporal Images for Agricultural Crop Mapping in Karacabey Plain Turkey
ÖZDARICI OK, ASLI; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal (2014-01-01)
The objective of this research is to classify major crop types cultivated in Karacabey Plain of north western Turkey using multitemporal Kompsat-2 and Envisat ASAR data with an object-based methodology. First a pansharpening algorithm is applied to each panchromatic and multispectral Kompsat-2 data to produce colour images having 1m spatial resolution. Next, Mean-Shift image segmentation procedure is applied to the pansharpened Kompsat-2 data with multiple parameter combinations. Multiple goodness measures ...
Electrocodeposition of molybdenum disulfide particles in nickel matrix
Saraloğlu Güler, Ebru; Karakaya, İshak; Konca, Erkan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2013)
The influence of the electroplating parameters and their interactions on hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the internal stress were studied during the electrodeposition of Ni and Ni-MoS2 composite coatings by fractional factorial design (FFD) and analyzed by Minitab software package. The parameters and their ranges were; MoS2 particle concentration (0 and 30 g/L), temperature (30 and 50 ºC), pH (2 and 4) and three surfactants, sodiumlignosulfonate (SLS), ammoniumlignosulfonate (ALS) and depramin-C (DC) ...
