Past and present biochemical data, starting from:RN J. Elliott Pillsbury August-1965 cruise till RN Bilim April-1994 cruise, were compared in terms of density dependent profiles for the dynamically different regions of the Black Sea. Examining of these data sets revealed that the suboxic zone has expanded since late 60's. An unusual event in July-1992, during which an intense blooming of planktonic organisms was observed and concurrent dissimilatory nitrate reduction occurred within the offshore waters of the western Black Sea, has been evaluated in terms of biochemical and physical properties. During this unusual period, the nitracline was eroded down to the sigma(theta) = 15.4 density surface where conventional nitrate peak has been observed during the last decade. In the meantime, the dissolved oxygen concentration of 25 mu M, which was expected to be attained at the 15.40 density surface was observed to shift to the sigma(theta) = 14.9-15.0 surfaces in July, 1992. In a similar manner, the onset of the phosphate gradient layer for the cyclonic regions of the Black Sea appeared to have deepened from sigma(theta) = 14.5 density surface in September-1991 to 14.9-15.0 surfaces in July-1992, whereas the position of sulfidic layer (H2S > 1 mu M) has remained unchanged, between the density surfaces of 16.15-16.20 during recent decades.

Effects of olefin-based compatibilizers on the morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of ABS/polyamide-6 blends
Ozkoc, Guralp; Bayram, Göknur; Bayramli, Erdal (Wiley, 2007-04-15)
In this study, commercially available epoxidized and maleated olefinic copolymers, EMA-GMA (ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate) and EnBACO-MAH (ethylene-n butyl acrylate-carbon monoxide-maleic anhydride), were used at 0, 5, and 10% by weight to compatibilize the blend composed of ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) terpolymer and PA6 (polyamide 6). Compatibilizing performance of these two olefinic polymers was investigated from blend morphologies, thermal and mechanical properties as a functio...
Effect of watershed partitioning on hydrologic parameters and estimation of hydrograph of an ungauged basin: a case study in Gokirmak and Kocanaz, Turkey
Kocyigit, Musteyde Baduna; Akay, Huseyin; Yanmaz, Ali Melih (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2017-08-01)
The main goal of this study is to investigate the effect of the size of the subbasins of a watershed on the hydrologic parameters and their spatial variability in an estimation of the hydrologic parameters and hydrograph of a neighbouring ungauged basin. In this paper, Hydrologic Engineering Center-Hydrologic Modelling System (HEC-HMS), a semi-distributed hydrologic model, is used to calibrate and cross-validate two flood events occurred in 1998 and then validate four other flood events occurred in 1991, 19...
Role of physical processes controlling oxycline and suboxic layer structures in the Black Sea
Oguz, T (2002-05-01)
[1] A one-dimensional coupled physical-biogeochemical model, together with reanalysis of the available data, are used to provide a new perspective for identification and interpretation of the suboxic layer (SOL) of the Black Sea. While the lower boundary appears to be stable at sigma(t) approximate to16.15 +/-0.10 kg m(-3), the upper boundary is found not to be isopycnally uniform as asserted previously. It is found to vary depending on the intensity of vertical diffusive and advective oxygen fluxes across ...
Effects of sediment transport on 1-D and 2-D hydrodynamic modeling and flood inundation
Önder, Görkem; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
In this study, effects of river bed changes on flood inundation are analysed with 1D and 2D coupled hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling. In order to select the best set of methods depending on qualitative and quantitative indicators, sensitivity of the variables affecting sediment transport processes are presented. Methodology that includes sensitivity analyses of sediment transport processes and real event analyses is implemented for Terme River. Sensitivity analyses are done with 1D modeling by u...
Distribution of gelatinous Macrozooplankton in the southern Black sea during 1996 1999
Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan (2001-01-01)
In this study, spatial and temporal distributions of three gelatinous macrozooplankton, the scyphozoan Aurelia aurita and the ctenophores Pleurobrachia pileus and Mnemiopsis leidyi, were evaluated using the data obtained from seven southern Black Sea cruises carried out from 1996 to 1999. A comparison of nets used for the sampling of gelatinous macrozooplankton illustrated the superiority of the Hensen net with a larger mesh size (300 mum) over the Nansen net (112 mum). P. pileus was mainly concentrated bel...
