This paper describes a design technique based on the Z-transform for a real-time speed governor of a steam turbine. The digital speed governing system is designed satisfying main operational requirements including stability and time domain specifications. Its performance is tested by practical application to a scale model of an a.c. generator in the laboratory (micromachine). The real time governor is implemented in software form on a microcomputer.

ELECTRIC DRIVE FOR FLYWHEEL ENERGY-STORAGE
TRIPATHY, SC (Elsevier BV, 1994-02-01)
This paper presents the results of experimental work on flywheel energy storage systems for city buses. An efficient electronic hardware scheme is used to start the flywheel and traction machines. This scheme has been designed, fabricated and tested in our laboratory. A low frequency a.c. has been derived from an inverter fed from a three-phase uncontrolled rectifier to start the commutatorless d.c. motors. Commutation is achieved by using a capacitor and two auxiliary thyristors, whose ratings could be a f...
Evaluation of the Effect of Spar Cap Fiber Angle of Bending-Torsion Coupled Blades on the Aero-Structural Performance of Wind Turbines
Şener, Özgün; Gozc, M. Ozan; Kayran, Altan (ASME International, 2018-08-01)
This paper presents a comprehensive study of the evaluation of the effect of spar cap fiber orientation angle of composite blades with induced bending–torsion coupling (IBTC) on the aero-structural performance wind turbines. Aero-structural performance of wind turbines with IBTC blades is evaluated with the fatigue load mitigation in the whole wind turbine system, tower clearances, peak stresses in the blades, and power generation of wind turbines. For this purpose, a full E-glass/epoxy reference blade has ...
Evaluation of hybridsolar-wind-hydrogenenergy system based on methanol electrolyzer
Budak, Yagmur; DEVRİM, YILSER (Wiley, 2020-10-01)
In this study, it is aimed to meet the annual electricity and heating needs of a house without interruption with the photovoltaic panel, wind turbine, methanol electrolyzer, and high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell system. The system results show that the use of the 2 WT with 18 PV was enough to provide the need of the methanol electrolyzer, which provides requirements of the high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The produced heat by the fuel cell was used to meet the heat requ...
Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling of Pipe Eccentricity Effect on Flow Characteristics of Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Fluids
SORGUN, MEHMET (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
The prediction of accurate drilling fluids behavior inside an annulus is especially important in drilling engineering during hydraulic program design. The flow characteristics of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids drastically change in the annuli when the inner pipe is eccentric. In this study, the fluid flow inside concentric, partially eccentric, and fully eccentric annuli are modeled using computational fluid dynamics. Computational fluid dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the effect of pi...
Computation of instantaneous fuel consumption for the determination of combustion efficiency with special reference to coal briquette size
Altun, Naci Emre; Bagci, AS (Informa UK Limited, 2006-04-01)
This study comprises of the computation of instantaneous fuel consumptions as a straight means for the interpretation of combustion-related characteristics of coal. The model relies on the determination of the extent of combustion by the calculated fuel combustion amounts at specific instants in order to examine the oxidation behavior and possible influences governed by any variable of interest. In this context, coal briquettes prepared by varying dimensions with and without a volume constraint were evaluat...
