A finite element modeling study on the seismic response ofcantilever retaining walls
Ertuğrul, Özgür Lütfi; Özkan, M. Yener; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
A numerical study was performed in order to investigate the effects of base excitation characteristics (peak acceleration amplitude and frequency of the excitation), soil strength and wall flexibility on the dynamic response of cantilever earth-retaining walls. In this study, Plaxis v8.2 dynamic finite element code was used. Previous 1-g shake table tests performed by Çalıan (1999) and Yunatçı (2003) were used to compare the experimental results with those obtained by finite element analysis. Comparison of ...
Convenient synthesis of multivalent zinc(II)-dipicolylamine complexes for molecular recognition
Xiao, Shuzhang; Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Smith, Bradley D. (2013-02-01)
A pair of novel dipicolylamine ligands bearing isothiocyanate groups were used as conjugation reagents to prepare multivalent molecules with anionic recognition capability. The isothiocyanates were reacted with two classes of dendritic scaffolds bearing primary amines, squaraine rotaxanes, and PAMAM dendrimers, and the products were converted into water soluble zinc(II) coordination complexes. The multivalent squaraine rotaxanes exhibit high fluorescence quantum yields in water and are very well suited for ...
A dft study of ethylene adsorption and hydrogenation mechanisms on nickel
Yılmazer, Nusret Duygu; Önal, Işık; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
Ethylene adsorption was studied by use of DFT/B3LYP with basis set 6-31G(d,p) in Gaussian‘03 software. It was found that ethylene adsorbs molecularly on the Ni13 nanocluster with π adsorption mode. π adsorption mode is studied for the Ni10 (1 1 1), Ni13 (1 0 0) and Ni10 (1 1 0) surface cluster as well. Relative energy values were calculated as −50.86 kcal/mol, −20.48 kcal/mol, −32.44 kcal/mol and −39.27 kcal/mol for Ni13 nanocluster, Ni10 (1 1 1), Ni13 (1 0 0) and Ni10 (1 1 0) surface cluster models, respec...
