Earthquake hazard and seismic risk reduction in the extended Mediterranean region - Preface
Guelkan, Polat; Slejko, Dario (2008-03-01)
Modeling and visualization of tsunamis: Mediterranean examples
Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Zaitsev, A.; Kurkin, A.; Ozer, C.; Karakus, H.; Ozvurt, G. (2006-03-10)
There are numerous earthquakes and tsunamis that occurred in Eastern Mediterranean and are documented in historical records. Hellenic Are is one of the important tsunami source regions in Eastern Mediterranean. In order to assess and visualize the tsunami propagation in the Eastern Mediterranean from the sources along Hellenic Arc, a new tsunami simulation/visualization software NAMI DANCE is used. In this study, five different tsunami cases related to selected rupture characteristics are used in modeling a...
Stochastic Strong Ground Motion Simulation of the 12 November 1999 Duzce (Turkey) Earthquake Using a Dynamic Corner Frequency Approach
Ugurhan, Beliz; Askan Gündoğan, Ayşegül (Seismological Society of America (SSA), 2010-08-01)
On 12 November 1999, only three months after the 17 August 1999 Kocaeli earthquake (M(w) 7: 4), an earthquake of Mw 7: 1 occurred immediately to the east of the Kocaeli rupture in northwestern Turkey resulting in extensive structural damage in the city of Duzce and its surrounding area. It was reported to be a right-lateral strike slip event on the previously unbroken segment of the North Anatolian fault zone with a north-dipping fault plane. This paper presents stochastic finite-fault simulation of near-fi...
Diabase dykes from Bogazkale (Corum), Central Anatolia: Geochemical insights into the geodynamical evolution of the northern branch of Neotethys
Balc, Ugur; Sayıt, Kaan (Elsevier BV, 2020-05-01)
In the Bogazkale region (Corum, Central Anatolia), pieces of Neotethyan oceanic lithosphere are found in an ophiolitic melange. Within the melange, there are occurrences of isolated diabase dykes that intrude serpentinized and carbonatized ultramafics. The diabases are phaneritic, holocrystalline and equigranular, and consist of plagioclase and hornblende as the main primary mineral phases. They have all undergone low-grade alteration, to varying extents, as reflected by the presence of secondary minerals, ...
Broadband Ground Motion Simulation Within the City of Düzce (Turkey) and Building Response Simulation
Ozmen, Ekin; Karim Zadeh Naghshineh, Shaghayegh; Askan, Aysegul (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-05-01)
In areas with significant seismic activity and insufficient seismic networks, simulated ground motions are required for both seismic hazard and engineering analyses. One important task is evaluating the efficiency of the simulated records in building response estimation. In this study, a hybrid ground motion simulation framework is presented to obtain broadband ground motion time histories of a past major earthquake in Düzce (Turkey). The hybrid ground motion simulation framework presented herein is a combi...
