Specimen shape and size effect on the compressive strength of higher strength concrete
Tokyay, Mustafa (1997-08-01)
The specimen size and shape effects on the compressive strength of higher strength concrete were investigated on different sized cylinders having constant length-to-diameter ratio (l/d), different sized cubes, and cylinders with various l/d for 40, 60, and 75 MPa compressive strength levels. The apparent strength values of 75mm diameter cylinder and 75 and 100mm cube specimens were lower than those of the larger specimens used. Also, the compressive strength was determined to be insignificantly affected by ...

Behavior of girder floor beam connections in prestressed concrete pedestrian bridges subjected to lateral impact loads
Baran, Eray; French, Catherine (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2007-11-01)
Each year a large number of concrete bridges are subjected to impact by overheight vehicles or vehicles carrying overheight objects. Most bridge owners in the United States are concerned with the increasing trend of bridges impacted by overheight vehicles, thereby increasing the urgency to evaluate the resistance of bridges to lateral impact loads. The present integrated numerical and experimental study investigates the behavior of a critical connection, between girders and floor beams, in a type of bridge ...
Performance of Beam-to-Column Connection of a Well-Detailed RC Moment Frame Building under Pseudodynamic Loading
Unal, Mehmet; Burak Bakır, Burcu (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2013-06-01)
The performance of RC frame members under earthquake loading may differ significantly from that of the frame. Even if the story drifts are not significant, a collapse mechanism may be observed because of extensive deformations in the beams, columns, or joints. Therefore, the seismic performance of each member should be investigated independently from that of the frame. In this experimental research, the seismic performance of one exterior and one interior beam-to-column connection region of a one-half-scale...
