Microwave heating of coal for enhanced magnetic removal of pyrite
Uslu, T; Atalay, U (Elsevier BV, 2004-01-15)
Amenability of Askale coal to desulfinization by magnetic separation following microwave heating was investigated. The coal was subjected to magnetic separation at 2 T following the treatment in a microwave oven at 850-W power and 2.45-GHz frequency. The increase in magnetic property by microwave heating at 850 W and 2.45 GHz was not sufficient to enhance the removal of considerable amount pyritic sulfur from the coal by magnetic separation at 2 T. Pyritic sulfur content was reduced by 37.46%. With the addi...
Microwave heating characteristics of pyrite and microwave assisted coal desulphurization
Uslu, Tuncay; Atalay, Ümit; Department of Mining Engineering (2002)
In this study, microwave heating characteristics of pyrite mineral and desulphurization of Aşkale Lignite, by using magnetic separation after the microwave heating, were investigated. Different size of pyrite samples were heated in a microwave oven and heating characteristics of the samples were determined. It was observed that heating rates and maximum attained temperatures increased with increasing microwave power, treatment time and finer particle size. Microwave heated pyrite samples were subjected to m...
Microwave assisted extraction of phenolic compounds from tomato and sour cherry pomaces
Şimşek, Meriç; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Department of Food Engineering (2010)
The objective of this study was to compare microwave assisted extraction (MAE) and conventional extraction methods for the extraction of total phenolic compounds (TPC) from tomato and sour cherry pomace. Antiradical efficiency (AE) of the extracts and also the concentration of phenolic compounds were determined. In MAE, the effects of microwave power (400 and 700 W), solvent type (water, ethanol and ethanol-water mixture at 1:1 v/v), extraction time (8-20 min) and solvent to solid ratio (10, 20 and 30 ml/g)...

Microwave-assisted synthesis of Eu3+ doped lanthanum orthoborates, their characterizations and luminescent properties
BADAN, Cansin; Esentürk, Okan; Yılmaz, Ayşen (2012-11-01)
LaBO3 with various particle sizes have been successfully prepared by microwave-assisted combustion and sol-gel synthesis methods. Urea, citric acid and glycine have been used as fuels during the synthesis process. Characterizations were done by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Photoluminescence Excitation and Emission Spectroscopies, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The SEM micrographs show dissimilar morphologies of powd...
