In the modern industrial world, many electronic and electrical control devices are designed with the use of modern power electronics, are characterized by an extreme sensitivity on power quality variations. Voltage sag, swell or interruption in one phase of a three-phase system due to LG fault, capacitor switching or any other reason is to he mitigated immediately for proper functioning of all the equipments. A three-phase transformer connected in zigzag connected winding across a star connected three-phase load may compensate the voltage disturbances at any one phase of the load. The effect of proposed scheme investigated for two types of balanced connected in star load (RL load and motor load) is supplied by a three-phase four -wire, Dyn, 20K/380V transformer. Simulation performed by MATIAB/SIMIJIINK verified the validity of the proposed scheme.

An analytical method for the accurate and effective thermal modelling of AIGaN/GaN HEMTS
Mohammad, Azarifar; Dönmezer, Nazlı; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) are popular solid-state electronic devices used for high power and frequency applications. Concerns exist about their reliability and performance due to harsh self-heating effects, which makes it necessary to correctly characterize their thermal performance. In the past many researchers used thermal modelling approaches for thermal characterization since variety of limiting factors still exist in the experimental measurements. In this study diversities an...
Model predictive torque control of an induction motor enhanced with an inter-turn short circuit fault detection feature
Şahin, İlker; Keysan, Ozan; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-9-9)
Model predictive control (MPC) is a popular research topic in modern power electronics and it has been applied to a large variety of power converters and electric drives. The reason behind this interest in MPC is the advantages that it offers: intuitive and flexible algorithm, fast dynamic response, ease of handling converter nonlinearities, and system constraints, to name a few. In this thesis, MPC is applied to the torque control of an induction motor (IM). Involving both the theoretical foundation, compu...
Improved Second Generation Electromagnetic MEMS Energy Scavenger
Turkyilmaz, Serol; Muhtaroglu, Ali; Külah, Haluk (2011-12-02)
This paper presents an optimized second generation electromagnetic (EM) MEMS power generator which can harvest energy from low frequency external vibrations. In the second generation scavenger, power is generated through planar electromagnetic induction using a magnet on the low frequency actuation plane, and coils on the high frequency resonance plane. It is demonstrated in this work through modeling and simulation that the generated power level is maximized by geometric optimization of the high frequency ...
A New Decoupling Approach Using The Fuzzy Logic In The Vector Control Block of The Single-Phase Induction Machine
Bouhoune, Kenza; Yazid, Krim; Boucherit, Mohamed Seghir (2011-09-10)
The single-phase induction machine (SPIM) has the advantage of being powered by a single-phase voltage source. The availability of this power allows it to be widely used: electric household appliances, portable machine tools... However, this type of machine has not yet taken its whole share from various works present until now, in comparison with the three-phase induction machine.
Design and realization of high power low loss combiners
Suna, Gonca; Yıldırım, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In recent high power microwave systems, power generation is commonly achieved by combining a bunch of transistor amplifier. Regarding the efficiency of power combining operation, insertion loss of the combiner is a critical parameter. In this thesis, several low loss power combiners, namely, microstrip Wilkinson combiner in 6-18 GHz frequency range, suspended stripline branchline couplers in 16.5-17.5 GHz frequency range and finally, planar probe coaxial waveguide combiners in 8.5- 11.5 GHz and 15.5-17.5 GH...
