Nowadays the popularity of the Electric Vehicles (EV) has increased more than ever. The "green" trend and the oil dependent automotive industry's strong will to find alternative energy resources are taking a big part in bringing the EV projects to life. Most of the carmakers devote significant budgets for developing this technology which had been partially industrialized at the end of 19th century. However, there are still some difficulties to industrialize the EVs due to the unsatisfactory level of battery technology. Therefore, most of the studies concerning EVs arc focused on the battery. In this paper, the Renault Fluence ZE's li-ion battery computer -based modeling and specifically the cell balancing development study has been presented.

An improved energy requirement prediction for queueing applications of electric vehicles based on parameter estimation
Sağlam, Berkay; Göl, Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2022-8)
The use of electric vehicles has increased in recent years. Although they have many benefits to the environment such as reduced carbon emissions, charging of vehicles brings some new challenges for power systems such as overloading, reliability problems, etc. Charging of electric vehicles should be managed to overcome these problems. Queueing strategies are one of the management methods. These strategies are applied to obtain a feasible operation that depends on the decisions made considering system propert...
Monte Carlo based control algorithm for economic feasibility of V2G applications
Şahinkaya, Kıvanç; Güven, Ali Nezih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
The use of electric vehicles (EVs) has been increasing in recent years due to economic and environmental factors. This rapid development makes it necessary to investigate the effects EVs on the power system planning and system participants. The aim of this study is to determine the optimal operating strategy for a microgrid operator which can function as a prosumer with the contribution of vehicle to grid (V2G) application. The connection time, plug-in time and state of charge (SoC) of EVs are stochastic va...
Electric Vehicle Key Technology Research in China
Wen, Xuhui; Xiao, Chengwei (2011-09-10)
Electrification is regarded as the mainstream for future automobile power-train in order to cope with the impending energy and environmental problems. The technology of electric vehicle (EV), including battery powered vehicle, hybrid vehicle and fuel cell vehicle, has been investigated thoroughly for more than two decades in China. Many remarkable progresses have been achieved. In this paper, the It & D of electric vehicle technology in China are introduced. Both battery and motor development for electric v...
Optimization of nickel, cobalt and lithium recovery processes from spent li-ion batteries
Tekmanlı, Fırat; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-28)
Since lithium-ion batteries are standard in electric vehicles and electrical devices and have the potential to be used widely in the future, it is essential to recycle end-of-life batteries. Waste lithium-ion batteries are harmful to the environment and human health and should be recycled also due to their critical metals. Lithium-ion batteries can be classified according to their cathode chemistry. In this thesis, the recycling of lithium-ion batteries with NMC-type (Nickel- Manganese-Cobalt) cathode chemi...
Optimal Battery Sizing for Electric Vehicles Considering Battery Ageing
Gezer, Ali; Ünver, Baki Zafer; Bostancı, Emine (2022-01-01)
Due to environmental issues such as emission of carbon gases and depleting natural resources, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are attracting more attention. To make EVs viable and widespread, the batteries' high cost and performance degradation problems have to be overcome. The degradation of the battery both in terms of energy capacity and power capability is highly dependent on conditions of utilization. To understand the relationship between energy utilization and battery size, an electric vehicle model that is ...
