Magnetically driven plasma guns that are inserted around a flux conserver at definite angular intervals are considered. The creation and the control of plasma channels are examined. By means of the hybrid model developed, both a system analysis of the Alternative Spherical Tokamak (AST) and relevant computational experiments have been carried out. In addition, by using the results obtained from the numerical scheme, the complex non-inductive current drive mechanisms of bootstrap and helicity injection in the AST system are discussed in detail.

Perturbation analysis of sheath evolution, with application to plasma source ion implantation
Bektursunova, RM; Demokan, O (IOP Publishing, 2001-02-07)
A perturbation model has been developed to describe the evolution of an expanding plasma sheath around a cathode after a high-voltage negative pulse is applied to the cathode, simulating the conditions in devices such as those used for plasma source ion implantation. The set of governing equations consists of two coupled collisionless fluid equations for ions, and Poisson's equation and Boltzmann's assumption for electrons. The time-dependent, self-consistent expressions for the potential, ion density and i...
Optical absorption of a quantum well with an adjustable asymmetry
Yildirim, H.; Tomak, Mehmet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2006-04-01)
The effects of asymmetry and the electric field on the electronic subbands and the nonlinear intersubband optical absorption of GaAs quantum wells represented by a Poschl-Teller confining potential are studied. The potential itself can be made asymmetric through a correct choice of its parameter set and this adjustable asymmetry is important for optimizing the absorption. In that way optimal cases can be created. We calculate the modified wave functions and electronic subbands variationally. The linear and ...
Limits on laser wakefield accelerators
Yedierler, Burak (1999-04-01)
The longitudinal and radial wakefields produced by a single laser pulse in a plasma are calculated. The limits on the laser wakefield acceleration because of diffraction, optical guiding, and energy loss due to radiation are examined. In particular for a bi-Gaussian laser beam, the energy gain about 4.6 GeV/cm s is estimated. A general constraint on the plasma density is presented. All the limits are compared and a localized density channel of width 4.6 x 10(-5) cm is proposed. (C) 1999 American Institute o...
Mechanical behaviour of Al2O3-ZrO2 minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite
Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (Informa UK Limited, 2003-08-01)
To understand the effect of a 'mesh-structured reinforcement' on the optical and mechanical properties of optomechanical composites, a unidirectional Al2O3 fibre-ZrO2 matrix minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite has been fabricated. By regular alignment of the minicomposites in the glass matrix as part of the 'mesh structure' a high degree of optical transparency is obtained in the composite; this transparency is proportional to its 'optical window' regions. The mesh structured rein...
Frequency Selective Characteristics of a Plasma Layer with Sinusoidally Varying Electron Density Profile
GÜREL, ÇİĞDEM SEÇKİN; Oencue, Emrah (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-06-01)
In this study reflection, absorbtion and transmission characteristics of a plasma layer having sinusoidally varying electron number density are analysed. In the analysis, plasma layer is divided into thin subslabs with constant electron number densities. The general frequency selective behavior of the plasma is investigated by varying the plasma parameters, external magnetic field excitation and sinusoidal electron distribution in order to be used in recent plasma applications.
