Microstructural changes in hazelnuts during roasting
Saklar, S; Ungan, S; Katnas, S (2003-01-01)
The microstructure of raw and roasted hazelnuts was investigated with light microscopy (LM). Tissue sections were fixed chemically using a mixture of formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde and buffer. Polyester was used as a resin. Thin sections were prepared by using a grinding method. Thermal changes in the microstructure developed gradually with increasing air temperature, air velocity and roasting time. Roasting led to some degree of cell wall separation and intercellular spaces, partial disruption of cytoplasmic...
Compressive Strength and Microstructural Characteristics of Natural Zeolite-Based Geopolymer
ÖZEN KARSLI, SEVGİ; Aleessa Alam, Burhan (2018-01-01)
A detailed study of geopolymeric reaction products and mechanical properties of geopolymer pastes prepared with natural zeolite has been investigated by means of compressive strength, XRD and SEM/EDX analysis. Sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions are used as an alkaline activator. The results of the investigation show that the activator ratio plays an important role on the mechanical development of geopolymer pastes. The geopolymeric gel and CSH phase with a low Ca/Si ratio are found as the main r...
Adhesion of thin films
Özenbas, M.; Tan, C. (Elsevier BV, 1986-12)
The periodic cracking technique for determining the work of adhesion of thin metallic films was applied to two different substrate systems which were metallic substrates (Al, Cu and steel sheet) and a polymeric substrate (ABS, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). The original model assumes elastic behaviour of the composite and is insufficient for such an application since the substrates exhibit plastic deformation before failure takes place. The model, however, is quite sufficient for obtaining relative magni...
