Electrophilic Organoiridium(III) Pincer Complexes on Sulfated Zirconia for Hydrocarbon Activation and Functionalization
Syed, Zoha H.; Kaphan, David M.; Perras, Frédéric A.; Pruski, Marek; Ferrandon, Magali S.; Wegener, Evan C.; Çelik, Gökhan; Wen, Jianguo; Liu, Cong; Dogan, Fulya; Goldberg, Karen I.; Delferro, Massimiliano (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2019-04-17)
Single-site supported organometallic catalysts bring together the favorable aspects of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis while offering opportunities to investigate the impact of metal–support interactions on reactivity. We report a (dmPhebox)Ir(III) (dmPhebox = 2,6-bis(4,4-dimethyloxazolinyl)-3,5-dimethylphenyl) complex chemisorbed on sulfated zirconia, the molecular precursor for which was previously applied to hydrocarbon functionalization. Spectroscopic methods such as diffuse reflectance infrared...
Extreme Oxatriquinanes: Structural Characterization of alpha-Oxyoxonium Species with Extraordinarily Long Carbon-Oxygen Bonds
Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Fettinger, James C.; Olmstead, Marilyn M.; MASCAL, Mark (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2013-06-05)
The first stable alpha-oxyoxonium species have been synthesized and characterized. Strong donation of nonbonding electrons on oxygen into the adjacent sigma*(C-O+) orbital was predicted by modeling to result in unheard of carbon-oxygen bond lengths. The kinetic stability of the triquinane ring system provides a platform upon which to study these otherwise elusive species, which are evocative of intermediates on the acetalization reaction pathway. Crystallographic analysis of the alpha-hydroxy and alpha-meth...
Iridium(0) nanocluster, acid-assisted catalysis of neat acetone hydrogenation at room temperature: Exceptional activity, catalyst lifetime, and selectivity at complete conversion
Özkar, Saim (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2005-04-06)
Acetone hydrogenation catalysis is important in applications such as heat pumps and fuel cells or in fulfilling the sizable demand for the product of selective acetone hydrogenation, 2-propanol. Reported herein is the discovery of a superior acetone hydrogenation catalyst- superior in terms of activity at low temperature, selectivity at complete conversion, and total catalyst lifetime. The new catalyst system consists of lr(0)(n) nanoclusters plus HCI easily and reproducibly formed from commercially availab...
Assembly of an antiparallel homo-adenine DNA duplex by small-molecule binding
Persil Çetinkol, Özgül; JAIN, SS; HUD, NV (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2004-07-21)
Molecules that reversibly bind DNA and trigger the formation of non-Watson−Crick secondary structures would be useful in the design of dynamic DNA nanostructures and as potential leads for new therapeutic agents. We demonstrate that coralyne, a small crescent-shaped molecule, promotes the formation of a duplex secondary structure from homo-adenine oligonucleotides. AFM studies reveal that the staggered alignment of homo-adenine oligonucleotides upon coralyne binding produces polymers of micrometers in lengt...
Bonding self-assembled, compact organophosphonate monolayers to the native oxide surface of silicon
Hanson, EL; Schwartz, J; Nickel, B; Koch, N; Danışman, Mehmet Fatih (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2003-12-24)
A new method is described to prepare strongly bonded, compact monolayer films of alkyl- or arylphosphonates on the native oxide surface of Si (SiO2/Si). This method is illustrated for octadecyl- and alpha-quarterthiophene-2-phosphonates. For both cases, AFM shows comprehensive coverage of the SiO2/Si surface. The thickness of the continuous film of 4TP/SiO2/Si was measured both by AFM and by X-ray reflectivity to be ca. 18 Angstrom. Direct gravimetric analysis shows surface coverage by alpha-quarterthiophen...
