In this work, we consider the impact or sensitivity of loads to likely power system contingencies that would require the adoption of demand management programs and we establish a frame work for determining the most critical loads and ranking them. Moreover we develop a novel weighted average approach that can be modified to specific power system needs and determine the most effective load for a number of likely contingencies. The methodologies developed in this work are tested on a wide range of sample power system test cases with successful results

Development of a lessons learned management process model and a web-based tool for construction companies
Eken, Görkem; Birgönül, Mustafa Talat; Dikmen Toker, İrem; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
Organizational memory formation and its effective utilization is a source of competitive advantage especially in project-based industries such as construction industry as it may eliminate potential problems in projects leading to higher profitability and less errors. However, project-based nature also poses challenges for establishing organizational memory as it is hard to capture knowledge of temporary project teams and transfer different types of knowledge between projects. This study presents a “Lessons ...
A New Index for Voltage Quality Assessment at Distribution Systems
KARACELEBİ, Mert; ERCİN, Özden; Göl, Murat (2018-09-07)
Analysis of power quality problems in distribution systems is getting important day-by-day because of the increase in vulnerable non-linear loads, such as data centers across the Globe. Regulatory authorities all over the world investigate these problems in order to serve in better conditions to the users. In this article we analyzed power quality problems in terms of their effects to the users, and developed an index to observe the problematic areas. As different types of loads in terms of operation critic...
A Lagrangean relaxation based approach for the capacity allocation problem in flexible manufacturing systems
ÖZPEYNİRCİ, SELİN; Azizoğlu, Meral (Informa UK Limited, 2010-05-01)
This study considers the operation assignment and capacity allocation problem in flexible manufacturing systems. A set of operations is selected to be processed and assigned to the machines together with their required tools. The purchase or usage of the required tools incurs a cost. The machines have scarce time and tool magazine capacities. The objective is to maximize the total weight of the assigned operations minus the total tooling costs. We use Lagrangean relaxation approach to obtain upper and lower...
Analysis of local sectoral policies via system dynamics approach: the case of Alanya tourism sector
Dumbar, Burcu; Sayın, Erol; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
The purpose of this work is indicating System Dynamics Approach to be an appropriate tool for analysis of policies suggested for local sectors. Local sectors are very important for stability of the country’s economy as well as welfare of the local community. Therefore, feasible and effective policies should be created and implemented in order to contribute to the local sectoral development. But before any policy implementation, policy analysis is required on to evaluate whether effectiveness and feasibility...
Optimal maintenance scheduling for transmission lines
Özmen, Engin Berk; Göl, Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
The fundamental mission of a transmission system operator is to supply desired electricity to all parts of the network continuously within acceptable economic and quality standards. Transmission lines provide the essential infrastructure to carry the power from generation stations to customers. Maintenances of the transmission lines are of great importance for not only power system reliability but also operational costs and equipment life span. Furthermore, operating the system with all available equipment ...
